The Blades of Sanguinus

Howdy all,

so I figured I'd post pics of my mostly WIP BA army, the Blades of Sanguinus. Its a dreadnaught/infantry heavy army with a splash of heavy armor and fast vehicles. I went for a highly mobile, hard hitting army.

Color Schemes: Red armor, gold trim, white/black/gold for details, purple eyes/vox grills.

Please note I am not a master painter or converter by any means, but I think I do well for someone whos been in the hobby little more than a year. These models are vast improvements over my old armies paint schemes lol! I hope you like it :P I'll be updating from time to time as I get stuff done. I make it a goal to do 1-2 vehicles a week, or a squad... but depends how life goes (and how much my wife complains!)

A dreadnought named Pete....I'd giggle if it wasn't aiming 4 barrels of death at my face. I thought those guys were strictly DA toys (but then again I've never spent much time looking into how IA stuff is actually used in gameplay).

I'd vote for drilling out the barrels on all those popguns.

Other than that, solid work, solid name.

I love your Land Raider's turret conversion, how did that come about?

Well, I traded the remainder of my Traitor Guard units to a friend for his Land Raider Redeemer he was going to convert. He had used/lost most of the bitz, so he dug out that little dude in the turret. I believe its an old razorback turret (it had a whirlwind ML attached), so I used it to convert my AC. I know I put the flamers on backwards, they didn't look right the other way because of all the missing parts lol

Hehe the reason I named him pete was due to the fact when I recieved him in the mail from the guy, I lost one of his feet. So I put him together anyway... thus, hes Peg-Legged Pete! I love that idea for the AC's tho, I might have to do that :)

Tell us about your brushwork.

Lots of washing lol.

Heres a rundown of how I painted most stuff:

1) Primer citadel black for all vehicles, white for troops

2) 2 coats of 2 paint:1 water Machite Red on the white models, 3 coats on the black models

3) Light coat of Red Gore over the entire model

4) 3 coats of golden yellow on the helmets (you can also use the darker yellows, will take less coats to cover the red). 1 coat of undercoat black for the sergeants helms.

5) Paint all trim gold + trim to imperium symbols and iconography

6) Paint all skulls Bleached Bone, as well as any tabards/cloth

7) Guns painted boltgun, swords codex grey w/ chainsword. I also painted small blood droplets on some swords for more flavor.

8) Eyes painted warlock purple

9) At this point, the model is almost completely painted albeit some details. I lightly paint all the wings white and the blood drops red gore.

10) 2 medium washes of devlan mudd over the entire model. Models with flesh toned faces will get washed once more after highlights.

11) Highlight the model, paint on blood droplet symbols/squad symbols, and names/text on books and things

I'm pretty heavy handed, and I don't highlight much because I like "dirty" looking models. I like my guys looking rugged and worn, like they've seen a million battles. They're not as clean or detailed as some, but for tabletop they look great when they're running up.

For the HQ's I washed them with Badab black once more after highlighting.

The one finished priest looks crappy because I washed him weith devlan mudd instead of badab black... made him look pretty icky. I tried to fix him, but meh... I guess he was the "test" model for my idea to paint parts black and gold against white.

Hope that answered your question BO!

Thanks Zid. I am really like your red. Seems simple enough too. :P

0b ;)

NP buddy, I'm always for giving and taking tips lol.

I think I'll work on finishing a squad or start on my sang guard (thinking black and bronze for the color scheme... hmmm)

Huh. Actually, i was referring to all the pistols, meltas, etc. of the army when i said "popguns." Though now I'm curious to see just where you use the drill on the AC's  . You thinking of adding flash suppressor holes and that sort of thing?
