TrentL
Okay so here are my Sanguinary Guard WIP's so far... the gold is laid in, I'm not sure I want to wash them again or not (It really dulls the gold, and forces another dry brush to bring it back again, I think they look okay so far.. opinions?) The 2nd photo originally had a "Hand" on it and was meant to be held where the blade was out sideways, since I wanted to magnetize the left arm, I cut the hand off and greenstuffed a hilt onto it, doesn't look too bad. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0838_1369.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0847_1377.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0852_1383.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0851_1382.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0850_1374.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0849_1375.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0848_1376.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0846_1378.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0845_1379.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0844_1380.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll310/LanthierFamily/Warhammer%2040k/Blood%20Angels/DSCN0843_1381.jpg
TrentL
Was wondering: 1) What do with the Metal piece that surrounds the Blood Gems... I normally paint it Gold... (Picture 6 has a good example) 2) Chalices again I normally paint them gold so not sure what to do, I was painting them Silver but people told me that Gold and Silver don't really go well together. Brother Nathan
well i paint gold on top of sliver, then wash, go over gold then highlight sliver, so if you highlight with a mixed sliver gold it auta do. go round the gems etc with that would do it wonders. chalices, depends what you want to do but the fore mentioned auta wok. alternativly black, red etc could work. You have a good armourbase done but it wont look right till you have all the base colours for all te details on, lest thats what i foun with mine. Also dont listen to whoever said that silver and gold dont go, my sanguard have silver wings, guns etc, works well.
Firepower
One good thing about Sang guard: they've given folks a helluva lot of new ways to explore painting gold. Your technique in particular is very nice, especially up close. What is the formula you use exactly? As for the trims around the jewels, if you can, maybe try a very bright silver, like Mithril? Hard to know off hand whether or not it will stand out or just blend awkwardly into the gold behind, though.
TrentL
My gold was: 1) Black Primer 2) 50/50 Scorched Brown:Shining Gold 3) Dry Brush/OverBrush Shining gold on top. 4) Sepia wash 5) Bit more dry brushing shining gold. I'll probably go back and put some sepia into the deeper recesses only rather than a whole model was again.
Firepower
Well, if you're just looking for more contrast, a fresh highlight of a slightly brighter gold may be a better idea than another shading. The larger, flatter areas like the jump pack would benefit more from this approach. Of course, if they are already as bright as you want them, the only option is to add more shading. On a slightly different note, which foundation paint did you use for the gray, assuming it is in fact a foundation paint?
TrentL
I used Astronomicon Grey its my favorite first layer moving towards white
Zealadin
Heavy washes, followed by careful highlighting instead of drybrushing would probably net you the best result once you reach the point where you are almost done, its looking good tho!
