Brother-Chaplain Apock
I have a ton of extra parts laying around and am in need of making a frag cannon. What I've done is break down my Thunderfire cannon because my BA army cannot utilize it. So here is what I've done. It is at the most basic beginning of converting it and I am looking for some thoughts and opinions. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/d1.jpghttp://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/d2.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/d3.jpghttp://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/d4.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/d5.jpg SO, what do you all think? keep on with the conversion or just do the boring cut the barrels off a Las Cannon thing? Haunter!
Now THAT'S a boom stick. I've been under the impression that the frag cannon should look a bit like a shotgun since I read the statline, but wow... That's really running with the cannon idea of it. I like it. Firepower
That thing must have some beastly recoil- it spun the Dread ass-backwards after all  . I think it might be a tad bit too beefy for the model, but at this stage it's hard to tell. An arm cover over the joint may make it blend more smoothly to the dread's natural bulk. Not glaringly bad or disproportionate as is, mind you, just sort of "Damn, so that's what you meant by cannon!"
Mudpuppet
I think if you can blend it into the regular dreadnought shoulder join it will look awesome! Stroke of genius that one mate, Mudpuppet
Inquisitor Kravin
Looks awesome. It's a pity that the Frag Cannon rules don't do justice to how cool that gun looks. I suddenly feel like house ruling the use of Thunderfire cannons on Dreads!
Brother-Chaplain Apock
Thanks all for the feedback. I dont think blending it into the arm will be a problem, I'd just have to do this: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/da11.jpg Cutting out the blue on the old thunderfire and gluing it to the blue outline on the dready arm joint. My other option is this: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/da2.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/da3.jpg http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/da5.jpg Giving it more of a shotgun feel. I also might do: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/da1.jpg I just dunno..... What do you all think?
BrotherMoses
Hmm I think I like the second one better. The first one just looks too... Warmachine?
Volcatus
Aye, the second one looks more like it. In my mind the Frag Cannon should be twin barreled. I'm going for the twin Bofors cannon look, using a cut down MultiMelta arm with half of an old Thud Gun grafted to the front. The barrels have unequal lengths, suggesting that *POM POM* AAA feel. Leonaides
I'd say go for the two barrels under and over rather than side to side... Looks closer to the other twin-barrel dreadnought guns...
Mudpuppet
I like the second one too. But i disagree with the above posters, i think the big ass multibarreled monster gun would still be more epic. Mudpuppet
Spagunk
a little while ago, I saw someone posting on ebay an older chaos dread that had some sort of short barreled las or autocannon. It looke like it could fit in as a count as frag cannon. Otherwise, i kinda like both options 1 and 2 for different reasons.
Haunter!
I still like the first. Is there a way to get the barrels closer together on the second one?
SamaNagol
As long as you drill the barrels out on the second one it will look spot on IMHO.
Brother-Chaplain Apock
Wow! thanks all for your input! If I had the cash I'd just buy the FW auto cannon and cut it down, but alas I don't. I wish I could find some use for that Thunderfire.... So it sounds like most folks, some of my local buddies included, like the LasCannon cut down. I wanted to do the side by side thing because I felt it had a more "shotgunny" look. Here's a pick of the up and down. http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g229/apokk/daa.jpg so, one last time: up and down or side to side. heh. Volcatus
Over/Under is still very shotgun. I prefer it in the example you show there. Just my .02 mind you. Ultimately, do what you feel is right. ...as long as you drill those barrels. <_<
Joasht
I prefer the first one to be honest, if you are going to have a freaking S6 rending template weapon, might as well make it as big as you can get it, rather than looking like two converted lascannons stuck together..... But then again, I'm a sucker for big weapons of any sort :P
biglou666
idea : to keep the dual arm look of the furioso, why not jusy mount the very end of the thunderfirecannon (the small disc with the 4 barrels) on the end of the dccw, instead of the four fingered bit... could that work? would it be awesome? i gotta try that... but here is my frag idea. this is painted now, but i cant find those pictures.... this is a forgeworld resin missile launcher with the ironclad assault laucnhers on the front, but is also works with the hurricane bolter arm (minus the actual bolters :)) i am aware that you cant do this now, but i made this before the faq on librarian dreads :'( http://i868.photobucket.com/albums/ab249/biglou666/Furioso%20Librarian%20dread%20wip1/DSCN2369.jpg

Makkeru
I made one from the AOBR-dred's multimelta, just cut away the canisters, feeding hose and shortened the barrels. I'll try to post a pic later on.

I think this would look most excellent. The TFire cannon is just too long. Shorten that bit and it will look very good IMO.

Brother_Dan'l
I rather like the B.F.G. look of the Thunderfire, but if you do go with the lascannons I'd have to say side-by-side is a better look. For those parts anyway. I went with the lascannon arm originally but settled on a cut down and bored out FW autocannon arm in the end myself. Here's the las arm. http://i207.photobucket.com/albums/bb219/Brother_Daniel/FuriosoAlpha1.jpg I can't find any pics of the other arm at the moment, but I bet there are quite a few folk who've done it that way.
