Chaos Deathwing?

Hallo My Brother Droogs,

 

I wanted to get the general consensus from the players on using a codex like Dark Angels to make a chaos army. I am also looking for people in the tournament circle that could provide feedback on judges and WYSIWYG guideline.

 

I am slightly interested in creating a Slaanesh or maybe Khorne Deathwing army. And as long as I used the correct weapons to match codex entries, does it create any kind of issues for judges? I know it has no game play advantage, I just really like the idea of a small army of chaos terminators ripping through stuff. :D

 

I appreciate any possible feedback.

I don't see why not, a couple years back I saw a really nice Britonian army that was comprised of all space marine bikes.

The army looked good, was on the proper bases, and each bike was armed with a lance.

He even modeled some with banners and musical instruments, and everyone had a different colored robe... so there was no doubt as to what army he was playing.

 

What you are suggestion could be a bit more confusing as you will be striving for a distinctly CSM look for your army, but not using that codex.

However if the units are armed appropriately and you make it clear to your opponent which codex you are using, it would be no different than if you were using C:SW to represent your Deathwing (as some defectors from this forum have claimed they will do).

As I did with my Terminators, they now use SW rules when appropriate.

 

You could spike up the skulls and chains on the plastic models, but I'd say you should use the reaper autocannon guns "counts as assault cannons" and you would lose the ability to take combi weapons. Alternatively you could use the metal chaos termies, but they are harder to convert then plastic. (But they come with added spikes and skulls.) Also look at the SW terminators plastic box, they look a bit more ragged and might be a better base to start from then the cleaner SM plastics.

 

It has great modeling oppertunities, a chaos Icon as the deathwing banner, a necromantic terminator armoured sorcerer as the apothecary. a clawed chaos terminator lord as Belial.

Also you can use CC terminator weapons and mix and match them in your squads. Use the chaos mutated bits to count as powerfists lightning claws and everything else and you'll have a very tainted Deathwing army indeed.

Nice idea if you want to use the DA codex for a 'themed' chaos army -- personally it seems to me that you are throwing away all the fun bits from Khorne or Slaanesh ;) –– a big sacrifice.

 

Having said that I'd love to see some pics when it's done -- could look stunning.

I love the idea so much I might have to steal it from you! Just kidding, I need to have at least one loyalist army to play with.

 

Although, this idea would lend itself to heavy kit bashing, and some great fluff to build around too.
