Librarian WIP

BigBaals

Recommended Posts

This is the Librarian I've been working on for the last few days. I need some help though. I don't like the way a regular Jump Pack looks on him, so I'm thinking of attaching some Sanguinary Guard Wings via green stuff. I need advice on is the color scheme for the wings. I don't want them to take away from the model, and I'm worried that white wings will do just that. I need all you painters out there! How would you do it?

That is an awesome mini! How did you make it? Is it some kind of generic librarian with some conversions?

Either way, in the codex (on page 63, Psychic Powers, Wings of Sanguinius) it says:

"Two blood-red wings of psychic energy spring from the Librarian's back , allowing him to fly over the battlefield"

My suggestion: blood-red wings! :verymad:

Hi.

I would consider painting the wings black. Black and red always work together. In case you worry that it would remember too much The Grim, try something whiteish'. Maybe bonewhite? It would compliment the deep red on the armor and still leave the cloth and the book well visible. In this case I'd use the following vallejo colors: (Basecoat)Leather Brown-> Plague Brown ->(GW) Badab Black wash -> Sand yellow -> (Highlight)Bonewhite . Otherwise, I'd go with black wings.

And the model, a very fine specimen indeed! The painting does look Dark and Grim- good work! Is the rest of your army in the same deep red tone?

I think the wings would be a nice add-on, so go for it! And ofcorse show us some pictures after you've done it.

Cheers,

Wagner.

Awesome, thanks for the ideas all! I think a deep red to almost match the armor, or black with deep red highlights (maybe a 2 or 3 coats of red gore on as a highlight) would be great. My 2 Priests have black wings, so that would work out well.

Drybrushing that red on the wings would be pretty awesome... but the red alone is Black, then Red Gore, Ogryn Flesh (or the other brown wash) into the recesses, then Blood Red, Washed with Baal Red, then highlighted with Blazing Orange, and a thinner highlight of Vomit Brown.

I use just about the same formula throughout my army. Here are my Vanguard Vets before I'd finished some of the details and basing, and you can see one of my Predators in the background. All of my assault marines have similar red armor. My armies fluff is that they are true Veterans of war. Those that wear a jump packs deep strike into battle often, and the heat of the atmosphere has scortched there armor, hence the black undercoat, followed by less and less red gore, until I put on the blood red, highlight with blazing orange, and liberally wash with baal red.

Since I wnated to make my Dante use Wings so he would go well with the Sanguinary GUard, I gave my Libarian Dante's back pack I think it looks decent:
