Which I asked what FAQ he was reading, because in our 2008 FAQ I read nothing suggesting this. My question is. Has anyone here read this anywhere? Another FAQ I missed? Or was this person misinterpreting.

This is NOT the official ruling in our current FAQ. Our current FAQ allows us to use anything from Codex: Space marines, but only with opponent's permission, and recommends against doing such (you are basically not following printed rules by doing so).

 

A tournament organizer is capable of setting any rules he wants to for a particular event though, and the poster may just be referring to an FAQ for the tournament rules instead of stuff actually printed in the codex.

Much searching later, I concluded he just wanted to sell me more toys ...

It has been FaQ'ed in a way.. You can use it with opponents permission... it's written in a fAQ. That makes it semi-official. Better than nothing and good for those with permissive gaming groups.

With opponent's permission, I can use Logan Grimnar in my Ork army, a BaneBlade at 1000pts, and Lego Jedi models as Obliterators to assist my Grey knights! :huh:

 

Anything in a FAQ that says "If your opponent agrees" is really just saying "No", as we already have "if your opponent agrees, you can do what you like".

 

Tournaments have their own Rules/FAQs, so can do what they like.

I can't say it any better. Although i deal with Vader and the 501st in my tourtaments (big star wars fans in my area, Witch hunters fyi)

It was never FAQed that DA had their war gear to the UM codex. If you read the FAQ now, as was already mentioned, you can use them with players consent. So if your opponenent says No, then you can't use them.

 

Basically it's a game, and as GW says, do what ever you want that is fun. So if your opponent agrees you both can do what ever you want. You can even make UM Terminators Troop choice if you agree. So see, nothing really changed in the FAQ.
