Pooling your Knowledge of DH part6

They were a marginally good unit under 4th edition. Now they're a liability under 5th and will probably lose you a third of your games due to KP's. Either that or you have to hide them all game which means wasting 120 points of your army for just three DCA's.

Their ability to effectively kill targets is just too hampered by the added liability.

I think the silver bullet that killed the Assassins was the inability to clear their killzones before the enemy strikes back. Where before they were dancing death, now they're a one-hit wonder, and then become puppy chow.

However, I have heard of them being used to decent effect against gunline-heavy armies, such as Tau or some Imperial Guard armies. The Assassins are still wonderful at killing light infantry, but the enemy unit has to declare all of its shooting against one Assassin model, instead of the entire unit. This makes it impossible for most gunlines to do enough damage before they arrive, or forces them to ignore the Assassins completely in favor of easier targets.

I'd forgotten about that failing as well.

Problems with DCAs;

1: Can't ride in Transports

2: No Frags

3: T3 and a 5+ Save for the Cost of a Terminator.

4: Is an IC that can't join another Unit.

5: Are each a Kill Point

Edit: 6: Require at the bare minimum 20 points and an Elite slot used iin order to even take them.

All of this combines to make a unit that in 5th is exactly as Eltnot says.
