Pig Of Sparta
Hi all, pretty much looking for some help as the title says. I'm looking to try making a water filled crater on a base so I don't want to spend £15 on what might be a one use product. I tried searching google but kept finding stuff about using resin or large bottles of stuff similar to GW's one. Is there anything anyone can recommend that's cheaper/easier than these? Would Gloss Varnish do the job? thanks in advance, any assistance will be appreciated James +edit+ forgot to state, I'm in the UK. Nachocuban
Micheals has some fake water that hardens clear, I don't think its resin as you don't boil or heat it at all. winterdyne
If you're after water in any depth, the woodland scenics 'realistic water' is quite good. I think it was about £8 for a middling size bottle - that can be poured to a depth of about 4mm every 24 hours. Otherwise if you're being really cheap - klear floor polish can be put on in many thin layers. Be aware both of these can leech pigment, so it's a good idea to put a sealing coat of varnish on whatever you're going to flood and allowing it to dry before pouring. chewielight
If your making terrain then you can make a shallow depression and just use paint with a GW "ard Coat". Suggestion would be to paint the darker colors in the middle and using watered down brighter colors for the outer side just paint in big circle patterns. I did the same type of thing for my bases using a lava flow theme. I did use resin to make them and then paint. You could always use clear resin (VERY easy to use) and not that expensive. Just play around with it to avoid bubbles. (make some smaller model parts to try it on. Here is what I did with my bases and I have sold a TON of them in the last few months. It is a very easy process. PM me if you want to more indepth instructions on how to make it. chromedog
Either Woodlands Scenic's Water effects or Noch (model train terrain stuff) Wassereffekt - which ARE the same product (WS is the US branding) are cheaper than the GW stuff. You still have to go slow and use multiple coats. Check out some model railway scenery sites on water. Follow THEIR examples.
