BassWave
I'm in the process of making a dreadnought themed army. I'm trying to decide whether to do either Iron Hands, Praetors of Orpheus, or a successor to the Iron Hands. If I were to choose the successor route, they would be called the Hands of the Omnissiah. The basis of the little fluff I had in mind was that the chapter has evolved the dreadnought into more of a mini-titan, rather than a tomb for their fallen brothers. These new dreadnoughts are created and piloted by veteran marines who not only proved themselves in battle, but also have been enlightened in the ways of understanding machines. The chapter has also developed a mechanical organ that produces nanomachines which travel through the body via the blood vessels. These nanomachines allow the person to better interact with other machines just by touch. Naturally, this chapter has strong ties to Adeptus Mechanicus and worship the omnissiah with some honored marines even wearing the rust red robes of mars. My second option is to throw out that fluff and join the ranks of the Iron Hands. Or I could forget about the Iron hands entirely, and go with the Praetors of Orpheus. This choice is kinda attractive as most people have never heard of them and fewer still have an army of them. Could you guys help me on coming to a decision? ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210497-iron-hands-or-praetors-of-orpheus/ Share on other sites
Phlegon
I would go with the Praetors as they have limited fluff and you could hash them out yourself. Its kind of a nice comprimise and middle ground. You get to do some fluff writing and don't have to come up with your own paint scheme. However one day GW could come along and toss aside all your hard work like a rag doll. If that scares you then I would draw up your ideas for your own chapter and we can help you hash them out and fit into the 40k world. Wow I don't think I was a single bit of help here. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210497-iron-hands-or-praetors-of-orpheus/#findComment-2506225 Share on other sites

Tutteman
I'd be careful if you make your own chapter, avoid making them too awesome. I'm rather fond of the Iron Hands, but as you say few people play the Praetors which gives them some appeal. In the end it comes down to you. Your choice in the end. If you do decide to DIY, make sure to post it in the Liber. We can help you out then.
