Brother Tyler
I suppose another 2 more matches to go since my character's match was a draw... Unfortunately, no. The draw means that both combatants were disqualified (killed, whatever). This is the ai uchi rule. The only time we don't allow for ai uchi is if it would determine a champion. A championship fight would be the obvious example, but another example would have been if 2 out of the 3 battles fought here in the DA forum had resulted in draws. Had that been possible, then the DA champion would have been the victor of the other fight. We don't want that, so such draws are re-fought. In the case of you character's combat, though, it merely simplified the championship, allowing for the victors of the two other battles to duke it out. Gillyfish
Final instalment is below! I hope it was worth the wait! Hours later, the Unforgiven Space Marines re-entered the cavern. Coded word had come from the the Apothecarion that the final combatants were ready to fight for the honour of leading their forces in the upcoming campaign. Azrael led the solemn procession. He had spoken to both of the final combatants, honouring their strength, courage and prowess, but above all, their resolve. The final figures to enter the cavern were McAdoo and Firenze. Their armour showed the traces of battle and the hasty repairs that had been made. Patches of solidified ceramite glue leaving ugly grey patches, maps of their previous fights. Yet, the bearing of the two marines suggested that these were not aberrations to avoid, but honours badges, marks of their valour. Firenze and McAdoo took their places at opposite edges of the semi-circle of Inner Circle members. The other members of the cavern wore no armour, but instead clothed themselves in simple robes, each patterned or coloured according to their Chapter’s traditions. For those who knew those traditions well, they also revealed their status within the Inner Circle, the trust and esteem with which they were held. Azrael sttod at the central point, the only member of the Inner Circle to have his hood down. His firm gaze swept sternly across the marines in the chamber. ‘Brothers, Firenze and McAdoo have shown great ability and fortitude to reach this battle. They have shown themselves to be true members of the Unforgiven. Unstinting, unbending and determined, whoever wins this bout will lead our forces with great honour and distinction. Let this final battle decide who shall lead!’ Taking their cue, Firenze and McAdoo strode to the furthest edges of the chamber. McAdoo’s hulking form at odds with the smaller power-armour clad figure of Firenze. Firenze could feel his hearts racing and adrenalin spurting into his system as his altered body prepared itself for the rigours of combat. He activated his power blades, their crackling energy lighting the cavern. He could see McAdoo activate his crozius in an echo of his actions. The two opponents stared at one another silently, waiting for the command to begin, running their final checks on their armour and weapons. Finally the command came. ‘Begin!’ Firenze threw himself forward; he knew that he needed to get into close range where he could bring his plasma pistol to bear. If he was to win, he would need to use the greater speed that power armour brought to breach McAdoo’s heavy armour. McAdoo pushed himself forward too, closing the range and opening fire with his storm bolter as soon as a hit looked possible. The weapon coughed and barked as it spat shells at Firenze, bright lances of fire screeching across the ground between them. Firenze dodged to the left but McAdoo had anticipated the move and the shots slammed into him, clanging into his armour and tearing chunks from the plasteel and ceramite. The shells bit deep and Firenze cried out as one shredded the right side of his chest, cutting cables and throwing red warning icons across his eyesight. Nonetheless, he staggered forward determined to close the gap. Firenze snapped a shot off with his plasma pistol, aiming to disrupt McAdoo’s aim, but clearly the pistol had been damaged by the gunfire and instead of firing it belched flame and over-cooked coolant over him. Armour singed and buckled, he gritted his teeth and moved onward. McAdoo kept up the steady stream of shells as he closed the gap between them, seeking to finish the combat off. Bolt shells continued to crack and clang against Firenze’s armour, but the damaged armour seemed resistant to further damage. McAdoo knew he had been fortunate; the plasma pistol had posed a real threat, but there was no chance it would recharge in time to fire at long range again. The Chaplain charged forward, steps pounding loudly against rock, the litanies of battle on his lips. Firenze was ready for him. Raising his combat blades, he parried attack after attack, spinning round to try and get behind McAdoo and strike at the weak links in his leg armour. The crackling blades scored deeply into the thick black terminator armour, sending sparks, smoke and the smell of ozone into the air. McAdoo pulled backward and pivoted on one giant, reinforced leg, moving with astonishing speed. Firenze raised his right blade in an instinctive block, but McAdoo pulled back his crozius and flicked under Firenze’s arcing blade. McAdoo jabbed the crozius forward, smashing it into Firenze’s ruined side. The valiant marine staggered backwards, tripped and fell, crashing to the ground. McAdoo threw himself forward, eager to finish it, but Firenze rolled and twisted, using the momentum to bring himself to his feet again. With lightning speed, he drove one of his power blades into McAdoo’s chest armour, cracking the thick plating and drawing blood. A cry of pain sounded from McAdoo’s vocaliser as he retreated, raising his crozius to fend off a follow up. For a moment the two combatants faced one another, armour split and scored. Blood clotting with super-human speed into a hardened cinnabar crust as their boosted metabolisms anxiously dealt with the damage they had inflicted upon one another. Then Firenze yelled as he charged forward again, blades spinning into the attack. McAdoo parried, once, twice, then threw himself into a counter-attack, the crackling crozius hissing and spitting angrily as it was blocked once again by Firenze’s power blades. McAdoo pushed again, trying to vary the speed of his blows to draw Firenze into a mistake. Firenze could feel himself tiring, the wounds he had taken were taking their toll, even on a marine. This needed to end soon. Seeing his opening, he caught the crozius on his left blade and thrust forward with his right, punching through armour and biting deep once again, but McAdoo had also seen his opportunity and fired the storm bolter straight into Firenze’s ruined side. Firenze cried out, strength leaving him as he collapsed to the arena floor. McAdoo had won. pueriexdeus
Sad to say,but TDA against PA. Theirs usually only one outcome. Obviously Frienze acquitted himself well, if he only knew what I knew of my battle against McAdoo. On a side note its interesting reading the story line, and inside my own brain working the dice roles to their conclusion. Hail McAdoo the Dark Angel Champion. Tanhausen
Same here... also trying to work out the rolls while I read... nice writting up gillyfish! Too bad for plasma heating and lucky storm bolter shots... but to be honest, I thought a Chaplain assaulting would deliver a couple wounds. Congrats McAdoo! Lord_Hail
Well, i thought that lighting claws would tear me apart, and i am rather suprised i won. I wish to thank my opponent Firenze, and wish to congratulat the real winner Gillyfish's writting. (side note my chaplin will recive some purity seals on his storm bolter, and a new paint job.) And wish to honor our chapter as an interagator chaplin can in matches to come.
