I've been playing a few games now using the BA dex to mock up something close to what a new GK list could look like (combining rerollable saves and AAGK), and been having so much more fun than any other list I've tried over my 40K lifespan. I'm currently running something like; Dante (need him only to unlock Sanguinary Guard as Troops, too much competition for Elite slots!) Libby Honour Guard x2 (1 with Drop Pod and 4x Meltaguns) S Guard x2 5 x Scouts (Sniper Rifles, Camo cloaks) 3 x S Priest (2 x Jump Packs, 1 x TDA) 5 x Assault Termies (1 x TH/SS) Furioso Dreadnought (Magna Grapple and Frag Cannon. Man that Cannon rocks!) Stormraven (TLPC, TML) The idea here is to get used to running a Stormraven, and utilise the S Priests FNP to simulate the new GK ability to reroll saves (ok it doesn't really simulate ++ reroll, and is locked at 'carapace' level, but it's the closest I can get to!). The S Guard are used to simulate a Squad of Power Weapon AAGK, and the liberal FC to help get to NFW like S values. Dante represents the GKs pin point Teleporting with his uber DS. I know there'll be some significant differences between this and whatever we do get, but my word, it's such a fun list to play! Went down to a 7 round nail biter versus Mech Eldar (End of turn 5 with a lucky rout of the last PF squad holding an Eldar objective, I tohught I'd won, but the slimy Xenos got a squad into a WS I couldn't stop to power across and contest my objective by end of 7!) for two draws in total, and has solidly beaten my Marine opponent twic, with both games being turn by turn swings in control. sonofblood Posted September 7, 2010 Share Posted September 7, 2010 I personally do not think Armour Rerolls is a good idea. I love the idea of AAGK though. WS5, S6, 2+ marines? Heck yes, the issue is that with those stats they would easily be 40 points(counting whatever rules they get). I understand Grey Knights being an incredibly elite and the most highly equiped marines, but rerollable saves I think could be a bit too far. Not to mention the overabundance of melta, plasma, and AP2 in general would completely negate any Armour Rerolling rule they have. Rerollable Invul saves I could see being fairer, but then enless they gave everyone 4++ and 5++ it probably would never see use. I'm looking forward to a new GK codex, but I think some of these things are a bit over the top. I also do not think Blood Angels could ever compare. Compared to other marine codecies they are probably the most you'd get, but things like Termis with psychic powers, the WS5 on all Grey Knight Units, and the NFW in general just cannot be replicated. It's a fine idea to get a feel, but I don't think it is adequate. While I agree that no codex could represent the Grey Knights straight off, there a few projects that use more up-to-date codieces to base their own GK projects on. Ulf managed to create GK rules quite well with C:SM rules as a base to work from i.e. Relic Blades for NFW's. You can check out his project here. That in turn inspired Valerian's project which is somewhere on this sub-forum. Put me in the camp of armour re-rolls as being overkill too. It was discussed in the rumours thread with a conclusion that something akin to a WBB roll or even FNP being slightly fairer. Maybe if re-rolls were a GK squad psychic power it would be more acceptable, but not a straight off ability. Also, Stickmonkey, the proprietor of these rumours suggested today that he's been fed misinformation on purpose recently. Personally, I'm beginning to suspect that this re-roll idea could have been part of those lies. On a side note, I hope you BA players aren't getting too worried about possibly being outclassed. :P Personally I'm looking forward to reenacting 'Vengeance of the Blood Angels' with a few friends, when the new codex comes out... Opponents can still kill you with Power Weapons in CC (a 10 man LotD sqaud tied up 2!!! S Guard and Attached Priests, due to thier 3++ save, and thier one power weapon), and Melta's and Plasma's will negate the 'reroll'. As full reroll, especially on SS Termies, would be overkill. But something like a global FNP would be nice. Thing is, if we *don't* get a survivability increase, be it extra wounds or a FNP version of some kind, I feel we'll be too squishy for our cost. I've tried to recreate current GK lists using existing Codexes, but so far, nothing ('nilla SM or CSM) has come as close as the new Bangels. :lol: Now if the Glaive Encarmines were Relic Blades, that would be the icing! Zealadin Posted September 16, 2010 Share Posted September 16, 2010 It would be rather illogical to see GK's gain a FNP-type rule, not only would it greatly anger Blood Angels players, but it also really isn't something that fits into any previous Grey Knight fluff. I've actually thought that a normal 2+ save for 'P'AGK would be more logical, and personally I don't think their cost would need to rise much unless we saw a huge variety of transports added, afterall foot slogging 2+ saves as terminators have proven, still are not that competitive even with an invulnerable. I am not sure about having a AA equiv would be ideal, maybe at 30 points per model.
