Inquisitorial Henchmen

Dernitor

Recommended Posts

I have been considering to buy some Henchmen for my Inquisitor's retinue in my Demonhunter army, however I have been put off of buying the actual GW models because they look a little odd and quite dumb to be honest :D. I was wondering if there was any other models which would make good Hierophants, Acolytes, Mystics etc or any model which can be converted to look Inquisitorial. Any help would be much appreciated

This is a good place to start

Generally speaking, DH retinues are best used to include mystics and shooting capability; if you want a close combat HQ, use Grey Knights. You can turn a retinue into a nice gunline/anti-Deep Strike unit by giving the Inquisitor a psycannon and loading up on gun servitors, mystics, and sages, or you can build them as a special/assault weapon delivery platform. An inquisitor with an incinerator supplemented by flamer and combi-flamer wielding henchmen excels at burninating things unto death, or you can turn it into a melta or plasma-heavy squad.

Of course, some people prefer a minimalist retinue, such as a couple mystics and a multi-melta servitor to deter deep-strikers, and putting the rest of their points into other units.

My DH friend has used a combination of Retinue models, Fantasy Fanatics, and all manner of off-cuts and wierd bits (including a Ork Grot-Prod!) to make a really manic-looking group! One with his hat on fire, one with a blindfold, one with an arm replaced by a claw, and all looking like zealous loonies! (And one Veteran Guardsman, casually ambling forward, helmet in hand, rifle slung, without a care in the world!)

I do not have the Daemonhunter codex so I do not know how the Hierophants or Mystics are described.. If the Hierophants are Warrior equivalents with the Power sword and Suppression Shield you can look at the Warhammer Empire models, the Lord of the Ring Minas Tirith models, or perhaps the best would be the Lord of the Rings Fallen Realms Easterlings models. Easterling Kataphacts look spiffy and seem to have the egyptian vibe that the word represents. For Mystics you have the Warhammer Empire mages and scribes, the Imperial Guard Regimental Advisors, or the Witch Hunter henchmen. The Acolytes can be anything depending on how you will equip them. Once you figure out the role you want the acolyte to play you can then go about looking for models that suit that role.

If you do not mind non-GW models you can check out Reapermini.com for a good variety of metal figures to browse through. My Witch Hunter Inquisitor and Retinue is all Reaper. It will not pass for official tournaments, but for local stuff it shouldn't matter.

Apologies for both bumping and double posting, but as a followup to my last post, here's a snap of the models I have painted as two acolytes and a Penitent:

I'll try to remember to get a photo of the rest of my retinue tomorrow.

And apologies again for bumping and for triple posting, but here is the promised photo of my entire Inquisitorial unit:

Left to right, back to front:

  • Acolyte (Hasslefree Miniatures)
  • Inquisitor Lord (commissioned sculpt)
  • Familiar (kit bashed)
  • Penitent (Hasslefree Miniatures)
  • Sage (dark eldar prisoner and a book from the WFB range)
  • Acolyte (Hasslefree Miniatures)

I don't have a working digital camera anymore, so I can't show you pics, but I borrowed heavily from my fantasy Empire Free Company for sages, a mystic, an acolyte and even a custom plasma cannon gun servitor (plastic Plas C came from a friend's space marine bits). I used a lot of other bits and also did a lot of cutting, shaping, hand swapping and topped it all off with some green stuff, but the hardest part is always having a good base model to use, which the variety in the free company models makes much easier. If you could get your hands on a couple of those and/or a couple flagellants you could probably make whatever you need.
I have two warriors who are made out of valkyrie gunners with valkyrie pilot heads. The pose is very much like they are standing to attention and the heads with flight masks and goggles makes them look separate from the rank-and-file. I game them las-guns with bayonettes for addes "don't mess with me" appeal

I've been pondering the same thing.

The point of the squad is to have all the models look varied, as its supposed to be comprised of the inquisitors personal agents.

Personally I started out with the WH inquisitor set - was thinking of substiting with DKoK commander, as my ISTs are DKoK grenadiers. Where I'll be using the inquisitor model, as he looks suitably fanatical in a fantasy way. For my two heavy bolter servitors, I'll use the IG Harker model and then the little winged servitor dragging a bolter from the WH set - those two will look good together :) - then I'll use the henchmen from Inquisitor Rex as mystics and others (Rex will be my GKGM).

Still looking for a good model for a heavy plasma and/or multi-melta 'servitor', so any ideas for that one will be greatly appreciated :)
