Question about magnets...

Hi all,

I pretend to use some little magnets to make removable arms for my characters who can wield different weapons (plasma gun, flamer, energy weapon, etc..)... My doubt is, what is better to make stronger the attraction? to use 2 magnets, one in each part (miniature and arm) or magnet/iron?

My physics knowledge tell me that the 2 magnets is the best option if both of them are perfectly aligned, but I´m not totally sure...anybody has tested something like this?

thanks for your help mates!

2 magnets would be the best option, as long as you get them the correct way around, as a plus point some of the small rare earth magnets are quite cheap.

This website is fairly good for very strong rare earth magnets, just make sure you order the right size ;) rare-earth-magnets.com I believe they ship internationally too which is a good thing.

2 magnets make a stronger bond, but you need to pay attention to the polarity during assembly. If you use a nail head on one side like the arms you don't have to worry about polarity. You can save a buck or two on magnets since you will be making many more arms and nail heads are cheap. I prefer the stronger magnet/magnet joints.

Not to hijack your thread but it sounds like you are going to be attempting what is described in my magnet tutorial: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=186501. I hope it helps!

NICE!!! thanks mate..I´ll read ir carefully and think going for the big prize of 2 magnets join (I´ve bought 100 magnets so I think I can spare 2 of them for each arm :P )
