'Wolfhound' Hergrand
I am just starting a Blood Angels army [as in, I only just bought the codex] and am thinking of army lists and what have you. So I've come to colours and deciding on paints...I've come up with a scheme but haven't tested at all and wanted to see what people think and if it might work, so: Note, this is just for the red armour for now: Undercoat: Chaos Black Foundation: Mechrite Red Wash: Baal Red Highlight: Blood Red Will that work AT ALL? Or just look disastrous? Many thanks in advanced :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210597-painting-blood-angels/ Share on other sites
Hemal
I'd do this: Undercoat black Foundation Mechrite red shade with Thraka green ink then highlight with mcehrite red again. Shade with badab black really thinned and added to recesses Highlight Blood Red Highlight Blazing orange Highlight Vermin Brown Glaze with Baal red to unify colours Final highlight of really thinned down bleached bone Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210597-painting-blood-angels/#findComment-2507121 Share on other sites
'Wolfhound' Hergrand
O_O That's a long list of things to do xD Not the most experienced painter, so I'm likely to mess that up and have no idea how that works in the slightest... Painting that isn't flat colours is daunting to me xD Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210597-painting-blood-angels/#findComment-2507141 Share on other sites
Hemal
lol - its actually easier to paint - the problem with flat colours is that to get a nice even tone (even to a certain extent with foundation paints) you still need multiple coats - adding depth in terms of shading and highlighting actually removes some of the need to be as crisp with each coat. Red Fury
I spray primer mine white then spray them with army painter pure red, keeping it light. Cover the whole model with thinned blood red (because the spray always misses some spots) wash heavily with the sepia wash highlight with blazing orange highlight extreme edges with fiery orange selectively wash heavily with baal red. I think it looks good and is really quick and easy. I'm still working on my first squad that I have used this exact technique with, and I like it so far. It is a little more sloppy than what I have done before because of the heavy washes but the end result is really very nice. I'm going to pick up some vomit brown to use instead of the fiery orange as I've seen that suggested many times, although I have painted many squads and vehicles useing the orange alreay and it looks good... just a little bit orange ;) The last tac squad I did, I did similar but with a very light wash of both the washes. It ends up looking nice and neat, maybe too much though so this time around I'm really slopping on the washes and I'm really liking all the shadow effects so far. Here is the sarg from that last tac squad I did: http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll275/RedFury77/40k/P1040828-1.jpg The primer black and then cover with mechrite red method sounds very tedious to me. -Fury Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210597-painting-blood-angels/#findComment-2507282 Share on other sites
