Xeenos
Id have thought sitting back in cover bunkering around your Long Fangs would be the way to survive Nids. Sounds like you guned it and ran them head on? Mind ive only ever played against nids once, back in 3rd. I know there is a 'mission' you need to win, but if you can sit back and shoot them for 3 turns and then follow with a strong counter attack, sending whats left to pick up objectives? I dont know, sounds like a good plan to me. Anpu42
Simple Basic Grey Hunter Tactics Put a Wolf Guard with them with a Close Combat load out [Paired Wolf Claws, Thunder Hammer, Power Fist, Frost Blade ect]. Maybe a Wolf Priest Other Good Weapon for the Characters: Combi-Plasma, Storm Bolters Get 4 things -Plasma Guns/Pistol Pistol -Power Weapon/Power Fist -MotW -Wolf Standard On your turn wait until your Assault Phase the turn Before he is going to Assault and Activate your Wolf Standard. He now has 2 Choices 1] Charge into you, if you succeed in your Counter Attack Roll is will still be as if you Assaulted him, You will go 1st and Re-Roll any “Ones”, this includes To Hit Rolls, Damage Rolls, the number of Attacks on your MotW, Armor Saves and Sweeping Advance Rolls. 2] Wait one turn for the Standard to wear off and that gives you one more turn of Plasma fire Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210601-things-not-to-pit-ragnar-against/page/2/#findComment-2508606 Share on other sites
little brother
Don't let a broodlord near him. They have a rule that prevents their opponent from attacking. Hypnotic Gaze or something. I was very annoyed by that recently. I always try to get him stuck into a large unit or units of gaunts. Then his warrior born skill can really kick in. Hear da Lamentation
I did the "hunker down" approach - if you have LF you need to use them before combat, so I usually do this. Focussed all my shooting powers on his "death star" unit. It survived 4 full rounds of this shooting, leaving the rest of his army unharmed. This I feel was a mistake on my part, but that unit was so scary it would have taken my Ragnar unit apart in short order (with lash whipe, boneswords and instakill). I should have been a little more offensive with Ragnar. I was worried he would get massacred in round 2, so I kept him and LR in cover, shooting at his deathstar (the Xenothropes had the way to the squishy stuff covered). Those xeno's make a LR a VERY risky 250points. I still think I prefer going with more bodies than the cost of a huge hero - I'm also not a big fan of LR. It was a fun try, but if I go for a big lord type, it won't be one which I need to also invest in a LR. The cost is just too high for me.
