Ultramarines 2nd Company Dread

This is my 2nd Company dread, Prior. He came out really well until I went to clear coat him. The can spluttered and left a stubbled finish. I hope you can look past that and see the other details. Please, give me all of your comments and critiques. I am here to learn!

I like the blue, it's deeper and richer than you usually see on Ultramarines, and the gold is well done. The exhaust may be a little too dark though, there's barely any metal on them at all. Also, nice weathering on the legs, very subtly done (didn't notice it at first), but I wonder why you didn't put anything on the shin pads?

I see what you mean about the spluttering, it sort of gives a bumpy effect to the model.

fricking spray cans huh? I had just undercoated two squads of termies, two regular squads and a dread before I noticed it was stippling out the paint. Super bloody annoying as now I have to strip them all off!

Still really nice work on the dread mate,

actually, because the bubbling effect is only really noticeable (at least in the pictures) on the DCCW arm and the rear of the dreadnought, you could easily say that he was subjected to flamer weapons, and promptly gave out the Emperor's justice.

All in all i definitely like this model, very well and cleanly painted, etc etc.

In this hobby you have to make your mistakes on "purpose"

You sprayed that to give it a realistic Weatherd painting look, I actaully like the effect if you look at the power fist it looks like what happens when paint is left on an outdoor shed in the rain for years, I think it suits a dreadnought.

Although in the future always test your spray on a sprue first and give it a good shake if its been on the shelf for a long time then shake it for even longer.

As for the paint job itself I like the look of the parchment and the armour looks the part also is that smoke launher a metal part?

@The Normish - Thanks for the comments. I really like the deeper blue tone I have developed for my Ultras and I am glad someone else does as well. As far as the shin pads, I guess the thought never occurred to me. Thanks for the suggestion on my next dread, though.

@blackbabyjesus - Thanks, mate. It IS frustrating.

@BorisBC - Thank you! But, I feel so sorry for your marines. That is such a shame and a pain! Best of luck with teh strip-down.

@Ensis Ferrae - Thanks for the suggestion. It is ALL about the backstory, huh? Now that I have a good excuse I don't feel nearly as bad. Also, thanks for the critique.

@Shaun Carlin - Thank you for the "test it on a sprue" suggestion! I will definitely do that. Also, thanks for another "excuse" for the mistake. "It is totally part of my weathering technique... duh." As for the smoke launcher, yes, this is an old metal launcher from the old all-metal dread kits. I like it much more than the new smoke launchers as it looks a lot more heavy-duty and a lot less afterthought-ish.
