Valkyrion
Anyone run 4 rune priests regularly at relatively low level points (2000 or below)? Is it cheesy, effective or both? How do you run them, all with the same power? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210762-running-4-rune-priests/ Share on other sites
MylesTheTroll
In my gaming group I've been known to run 2-4 in 1500pt lists. Or even two Rune Priests along with Njal. The way we set up our games is that we name each army that we will be using THEN everyone makes a 1500pt list THEN we roll a d6 to see who goes against who. This way we keep from list tailoring from happening. It's usually Nids, Daemons, Orks, and a SM chapter or two in our sessions though everyone tends to switch it up. I usually have a Beast Slayer saga priest using Living Lightning and Murderous Hurricane to ward off would be deepstrikers since my priest will more than likely be sitting back in a Rhino or even with Long Fangs. Very useful vs Nids/Necrons/Daemons. In fact, I've found that Living Lightning is GREAT for taking out Destroyer and Immortal squads since they aren't usually 10+ strong. Especially Destroyer squads in 1500pt games. Generally, I make sure to have 2 JotWW with a mix of Living Lightning, Murderous Hurricane, Stormcaller, and Tempest Wrath. Two JotWW to fend off deepstrikers as well...Daemons hate it as do Necrons, but you really dont want to get within 24" of a 10+ squad if you can't dramatically decrease their numbers. Though the same can and is said about most armies. I pretty much tool them as crowd control to help suppress any situation that might happen that I can't take care of with my Grey Hunters alone. I've only lost my very first game as Wolves in my group in an objective match. Haven't been beat nor even tied since. Beastslayer + LL + MH JotWW + MH + Runic Armor (since I pretty much want this one to lead the army in assault) JotWW + SC LL + TW + CotS Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210762-running-4-rune-priests/#findComment-2509808 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
I havent tried it... and outside of apocalypse I wont be. Why? Because frankly 1) Id rather have more troops and 2) It just seems... bland. Nacho Wolf
I'd only do it against a double lash army, it'd effectively make it useless Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210762-running-4-rune-priests/#findComment-2509814 Share on other sites
the jeske
so does a single njal , transports or even a normal RP. as mage said ,4 is overkill if someone has enough points then its better to get one RP and some counter HQ like a lord or more LF or generaly stuff that kills. 2 RP is most I would use and even that only If I knew that there are going to be many infiltration builds around. Kassill
Yeah, I would max on 2. One to lead the army and one to hang back with the LF's and mess up some deepstrikers and what not. Of course, I usually run Njal now, so 1 HQ is all I can afford for now at 1850. Hellios
I've used 3 in 1,500pts... I'm a psyker whore (I've played Ulthwé for years and how I lamented the loss of my seer council oh and augment...) I basically use them to boost my GH squads both in terms of dakka (powers) and combat (IC with a force weapon woop)... I find the list I used that in works fine although I admit to wishing I had a few more men and few more big guns... Casual Heresy
I've started running a list with Njal and two priests. It's early days yet but it seems to be rather balanced. My only rule is no jaws. Jaws is my shameful last resort if im up against someone who needs a kicking. My first army was Eldar (Wolves being my 2nd), and I just enjoy using psychic powers to win especially since no one else in my group really bothers with them. And with both Wolves and Eldar, my opponents know not to even bother with using psychic powers against me since the odds are greatly against them.
