Painting stone?

Generally what works well is a dark brown base, then several very light drybrushes to build the highlights up gradually rather than just a couple of stages. The more stages, the more realistic it'll look. Bring the very edges up to almost white (through brown / yellow / grey depending on your type of stone). A few tiny spot glazes with green and yellow to represent lichen / algae if you're bothered.

I dont know if you think this is good enough, but I use Dheneb stone with a wash of badab black, and if you let it pool correctly, it gives a great and simple effect, sorry about picture quality and my painting skills( or lack thereof)

Edit: better picture

On a very flat surface you can stipple to add a bit of texture. Use an old detail brush that's starting to splay, just like you would for drybrushing, but have a little bit more paint on the brush and gently stab it. Sometimes I cut the tip off (so it's like a hairy cylinder with a flat top) for this.

I'm enjoying Dheneb Stone, washed with Badab Black, dry-brushed with Stone again, and then highlighted with white, or dheneb/white 50/50.

I sometimes use a heavy, very-dry brush, leaving stippling/texture all over, for larger areas.

Guyver3x's stuff looks good.
