Grimtooth
So played Nids tonight. Capture and Control with Spearhead deployment. So basic list builds. Me: Thunderlord, ss/th, Fenrisian wolves x2. Rune Priest, chooser, living lightning, MoR TDA Wolf Guard, drop pod GH x10, melta x2, MoW, powerfist, standard, rhino GH x10, melta x2, MoW, powerfist, standard, rhino GH x10, melta x2, MoW, powerfist, standard, rhino Fenrisian wolves x10 Long Fangs, missile launcher x5 His: Hive Tyrant, bonesword, lash whip, heavy venom cannon - Tyrant Guard x2 boneswords, lash whips Hive Guard x2 Zoanthrope x2, spore pod Doom, spore pod Termagaunts x20 Termagaunts x20 Genestealers x10 Genestealers x10 Warrior Brood x5, boneswords, lash whips, venom cannon. Objectives were in ruins in each table quarter that we deploying in. I won roll so placed Long Fangs and Rune Priest on 2nd level of ruins that objective was in. One GH rhino on right side of ruins claiming objective. Other two GH rhinos on left side with Thunderlord and wolves behind. WGTDA and pod coming in turn 1. He placed gaunts and HT and guard being screened by gaunts and the edge of his quarter and hive guard in cover in his deployment. Genestealers to outflank, Doom and Zoanthropes to pod in. Turn 1: I drop WGTDA into his deployment zone in front of ruins that holds the objective. Objective holding GH stays put. Other GH and Thunderlord with wolves move full speed ahead. Rune Priest rolls peril for Tempest Wrath and takes wound. Makes his living lightning test. Rune Priest and Fangs open up on gaunt squad with LL and frag, smoking a good amount. WGTDA open up on HT and guard, putting wounds on guards. He moves gaunts away from WGTDA along his table edge. HT and guard into terrain, hive guard and tyrant fire into WGTDA and do nothing. Turn 2: I move my WGTDA towards his massed HT with guard, hive guard, and gaunts. GH rhinos and Thunderlord and wolves continue moving forward. Bad run roll for Lord and wolves will get me next turn. Rune Priest passes test for TW and LL and with Long Fang frags, fire into same gaunt squad killing more. WGTDA fire into same squad killing more. He rolls for reserves and gets everything but Doom. One squad of genestealers outflanks from my right side, poised to assault my GH rhino sitting on objective. Warriors and other genestealers come in on my table edge via outflank, warriors looking to assault my non-running wolves and genestealers looking at Long Fangs. Zoanthropes try and land right by WGTDA, but huhe scatter sends them towards center of board. Untouched set of gaunts now heads towards advancing GH rhinos, while other starts to head back towards his objective. HT and guard move forward towards GH rhinos staying in cover. Zoanthropes open up on one GH rhino and get double weapon destroyed immobilizing it. Hive guard open up on WGTDA and kill one. Warrior brood holds fire so as not to kill wolves in charge range. Outflanking genestealers assault GH rhino on objective, rending hits get penetrating hit that causes 6" explosion killing one GH inside and Long Fang and pack leader outside. GH pass pinning test and sit in crater. Only one genestealer dies. Other brood does not roll high enough to assault Long Fangs. Warriors assault Lord and wolves but just barely killing 11 of 12. Lord and lone fen wolf do 6 wounds in return. Lose combat, stay stuck in, and make saves for fearless. Turn 3: Only mobile GH rhino left drops pack off to support out numbered Lord. Immobilized rhino GH pack hop out and move into cover towards Zoanthropes. WGTDA moves towards spore pod and gaunts heading back to objective. GH in crater stay put and prepare to rapid fire. Rune Priest fails TW due to close Warriors but passes LL. Opens up with Long Fangs using frags on failed assault genestealers killing all but two. Rapid firing GH in crater kill 5 in other stealer brood. GH in cover kill both Zoabthropes with meltas and bolters. WGTDA fire on gaunts and kill more denying themselves assault. GH assault warriors on Lord losing three but with lord and standard wipe them out. GH masscre move back towards rhino to mount up. Lord massacre moves towarda advancing gaunts. He moves HT and guard up to get in assault range of GH in cover. Gaunts on left move towards objective taking wide path to stay away from WGTDA. Other gaunts head towards middle. Genestealers with two left move towards Long Fangs to assault. Other brood prepares to assault GH in crater. HT fires on GH in cover and misses. Hive guard fire on WGTDA doing nothing. Pod does his thingy to WGTDA and kills one. Genestealers assault Long Fangs and Rune Priest in cover and he kills the two of them with his runic weapon. Other brood assaults GH in crater and are all killed by the GH using standard. GH massacre move onto objective HT and guard assault GH in cover, killing all but three GH that run away but also losing both tyrant guards and two wound on HT with help from standard. HT massacre moves deeper into cover. Turn 4: I move Lord towards gaunts in center setting up to assault. GH embark and head towards HT in cover. Fleeing GH don't rally due to proximity of HT. WGTDA move through cover to contest objective and fire on gaunts attempting to move towards it. Rune Priest gets TW and LL easily. He with Long Fangs open up on gaunts headind towards Lord, killing a bunch and denying Lord assault. GH in Rhino pop out of hatch and two meltaguns shots later the HT is dead. WGTDA open up on other gaunts killing almost all, forcing them to flee off table due to failed morale check. His last chance for a draw has him deep strike the Doom. He tries to bring it as close as he can to my GH on objective but scatters bad. He is able to leach life on them but only gets two of them. He does big template, but it also is ineffective. Turn 5: I move my Lord to charge Doom. Long Fangs fire on Doom, but he inv saves the two kraks that wound. Lord charges and Doom becomes wet spot on table via I'd from many unsaved TH attacks. Wolves win. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/210829-sw-vs-bugs/ Share on other sites
Grimtooth
A couple of things stood out with this game. Long Fang's frag is as effective with horde as the krak is with armor. I knew this before of course, but to really see it in action was a sight to see. Teamwork brings down Hive Tyrants! Really, close support of my GH units did not leave the Hive Tyrant a chance.
