An attempt on a different theme , DoA and deepstrike , for another army of Space Marines and most of them red.

Want to do a Jumppack / deepstrike heavy army with nice options on models and the sons of sanguinius should provide

this. Got a few models just for the looks and some to be fielded. Would like to ask you to give me few tips what is

a " nice to look at " and "should be used in 40k games" from those units I am intending to build:

HQ:

already done:

Dante. <= he should go with a jumppackheavy force

Sanguinor <= maybe just a painting exercise?

Astorath <= maybe just a painting exercise?

Mephiston <= maybe just a painting exercise?

Honorguard / Jumppacks <=found a place for these unused metal veterans...its NOT a special weapon x4 unit

planned:

Librarian / Jumppack

Elite:

already done.

Sanguary Guard / banner <=nice kit. Could move them to Troops with Dante, yes?

Sanguary Priests / Corbulo, 1x SP at foot, 2x SP / Jumppack. <=Love the idea of distributable apothecarys

planned:

Furioso Dread / upgrade to Librarian <=interesting variant, ideas where to base him on welcome

Furioso Dread <=payload if I field Stormravens

Sternguard / Land Raider <=Sterns WIP. Thinking of a basic LR.

Fast assault:

already done:

Baal predator, 1x flamer heavy

Baal predator, 1x tl assaultc / HB

Vanguard / jumppacks <=starting with 5x ( finally a place for the metals), could ride a Stormraven. Maybe adding +5x ?

planned:

expanding Vanguards?

Vanguard at foot?

Troops:

already done

Assaultmarines / Jumppacks x10 <=just had to

Assaultmarines / Jumppacks x10 <=just had to

Deathcompany / Jumppacks x5 / Lemartes <=another group of stormraven passengers/ DS

Scouts, 5 campers / shooty.

planned:

Deathcompany Dread <=riding with the DC / JP unit

Deathcompany at foot / LRC <=could deepstrike them, they're prepared to die anyway.. Boltgun or CCW if walking?

more assault marines / jumppack?

Heavy Support:

already done:

sadly nothing

planned:

Stormraven x3 <=would prefer a official kit, but I am not unable to do a kitbash

Predator x2 <=fast preds? yes please.

more HS choices wouldn't hurt, but I am planning to keep this less mechanized

Suggestions welcome

PS: these JP's are ready

You list looks good but you need more AV13 for that 1 Baal to arrive alive ;)

I like the idea of the LRC + Death Company, Death Company can look pretty awesome great mini's I used those mini's to create my Vanguard.

Something that is both Good in the game and good to look at Sanguinary Priests and Honor Guard.

Dont do death company with boltguns if they ahve a trasport jsut give them cc and an assortment of pistols. The units you have their are great. I know you want to stay away from mech but i highly suggest a vindicator or just drop the baal and take some devs.

Storm ravens are cool but you shall find them very flimsly.

You have plenty of great HQ choices done, and the standard librarian you want to do is in my opinion the best hq in our book for cost. I would also suggest giving meph a whirl or in a heavy jump pack army the sanguinor. Dante you have already obvious considered.

are you wanting to do a BA army.. or by the look of your avatar you might wanna consider a raven guard count as army with all sang guard winged model that would be pretty awesome to see.

Yes I want to add a BA army to the ( already unreasonable big ) heap of SM armies.

The Raven Guard suffered from the loss of index astartes, but I would have to run special rules that doesn't fit them if I

did a 'counts as' army using codex BA.

The jumppacks of the sanguary guard are welcome for conversions.

Thanks.

I think its possible to draw 2+x army-lists from the units I put into that "to do" list.

The Predators of any type are what I may have to sent into cover or put on a flank to reduce attention.

But Devs? They seem again not a good buy. Maybe a vindi, but people get used to them and maybe

preds get sometimes ignored?

The Storm Raven "squad" is a given. If they get shot down regulary I am doing it wrong or their sacrifice is neccessary.

Most HQ's i am confident finding a place for them. Meph is a problem, as he can't join anyone.

Can't transport him alongside any squad, so he either needs to walk or have his own taxi.. :teehee:

Where should I put him?

Why? You like rewarding your enemy much for making sure their transport strands 2 turns of running away from them? Or you like not punishing those jet bikes trying to bait your DC away from the main force?

IMO, Boltguns are best for the 'bodycount' DC to add to your list besides the special weapon ones. They actually bring something none of the other DC have: long range fire.

You want a jump pack list which means lots of troops, that is what you said jumpers. Now having one or two vehicles isnt always a good idea as having a even spread of marines and vehicles isnt a good idea it gives the opponent always optimal targets for his wepons, ie lascannons into vehicles plasma and bolters into assault marines. devs require the same weapons to kill effectively as assault marine that is why they are used in troop heavy lists, if you have no vehicles what are they going to fire their lascannons at? you waste the points they spend on such things.

Storn ravens are super flimsy super expensive and dont find much cover, it is probably the worst vehicle you could have in your jumpers list. Ther is no such thing as a neccessary sacrifce when its a 200 point vehicle that doesnt have much of an ability to absorb damage.

Meph cant join a squad but he will always get a cover save. If youare finding meph a problem to use you are doinf something wrong, he is a an absolute machine, just run him behind a squad he is rediculously fast with fleet and wings hell make combat second turn almost guaranteed.

Wow this is well I'll spare you the words that come to mind. 10 boltguns on DC hey and you want to use them to stop those jet bikes from baiting you? Why dont you shoot the jetbikes with something that'll actually be effective against them? 10 boltguns 6.6 hits 3.3 wounds 1.1 dead. So you going to spend 5 turns shooting a 5 man jetbike squad with deathcompany? if your death company get baited youve done something wrong like putting them on the flank of your army. It's better to use pistols to get extra attacks at str 5 in combat that count towards combat res than to give them boltguns and thus reward your opponent with your own stupidity.

But hey do what you like.

It is a project which may spawn a jumppack list, yes.

JP would be:

-dante.

-JP librarian.

-as many JP units I can cramp into the points given. ( assaultmarines, anguard,Deathco,Sanguary guard, honorguard, SP)

-maybe StormRavens, dreads only if SR are used.

-any other useful unit without vehicles. Anything that deepstrikes or infiltrates.

basically depends at the size of the force who is in.

Mixed list:

-2x baals and 2x standard preds

-2x Land Raiders

-assortment of units from the JP list.

-no sure which HQ to add.

As said before, these units don't need to be "only competitive" as I am willing to do some just for modelling and painting them. Played other marines, not BA ,so I do appreciate any hints where to go this project as I prefer to have at best

units consisting of nice models and worth their points spent but lack of both factors would suck. Could live with one of

these conditions satisfied. B)

Suggestions of units not taken but beneficial also welcome. :(

PS: not a fan of devastators and blue helmets in a red army :P
