BigJon
You'll have to check out the rest of my list in the SW army list section. Its called 1850 Swiftclaw. The rest of the army is very in-your-face. These podding GH are the least of the worry (I hope) BigJon Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211130-best-drop-pod-pick/page/2/#findComment-2513693 Share on other sites
WG Vrox
I like to run at least 2 pod squads 1 with 10 man GH and 2 plasma guns the other with 8 GH and a WG in TDA combi Melta and Chain Fist. If my opponent decides to give me first turn and/or start in reserve leaving me no targets for the TDA pod, I bring in the 10 GH first and setup a gun-line, leaving my heavy hitters in reserve still able to hit a target from deep strike. A WG in TDA with a chain fist and combi-melta with 8 WG / Melta Gun / Wolf Standard / MotW / Plasma Pistol though expensive is the ultimate killer pod unit able to hit anything on the table and have the staying power to survive till second turn. Skirax
If we're talking about a Melta Pod, then Vassakov has a great couple of units that do the job - Two Melta Hunters in Two Deathwind Pods, IIRC. I saw this against a Guard Player - two of his Chimeras gone and then the unit inside as well. Spacefrisian
I usually have 1 BC unit of 8 in a Droppod and 3 GH units in pods. Its not that bad. Requiem of the Wolf
They are not strictly suicide troops if you drop down a pack of 6 or 7 of them. Its a unit designed to take out a very essential target that could otherwise cause alot of trouble for your army,Plus having the advantage of making your opponent split his attention during the first round. Having them there will cause your enemy to devote resources to deal with them, but without the ease that a single shot can do to a Land speeder. you can use it to sweep the defenders off your enemies back objective. Its the same general theory as the Wolf Scouts, but a bit more expensive, but with greater control over where you put them and when they come. Its a Surgical strike designed to do what the rest of your army cant do nearly as well or as cleanly. Its the same idea as the Wolf lord battering his way into the hive by himself and coming out 3 days later with the skull of the tyrant. It is as much a suicide unit as your Wolf Scouts are...you make sure it is worth the use by sending it after a more important target,or a more valuable target,or a target the rest of your enemy can't get to easily. Not to mention its a way to put your opponent on the defensive right from the start. To make him split his attention and screw up his plan of attack. He will have to devote effort and troops to dealing with the threat, and will all ready be down the important target you sent them after. On the question of BC vs GH. use a 10 man GH unit, wolf standard, two plasma guns,PW,MOTW. Drop them in rapid fire range and blast the heck out of the target. In General this would be a better use for taking out a far objective,or heavy weapon squad. The Wolfguard version is better used for taking out a squad of terminators or heavy tank squads,or a Independant Character.
