captain_shrike
Black metal is something I havn't seen done before. Has anyone else?? How would I go about making it look good and even look like it is black metal. The only thing I can think of is to paint chips on the edge with silver. The Normish
You mean a shiny kind of black? I don't know of any paints like that. Perhaps use a dark metallic paint and wash it heavily with black. Solid Zaku
Couple of things you could do. First, look at the Black Templars boards. Surely, somebody trying to paint 'The Black Blade' has asked this same question. Secondly, have you tried the Viva Metallica method? Look it up, perhaps it's what you're looking for. If you have a WD collection, look up the Dark Elves promo issue or the 5th Edition promo issue (can't remember which, and I don't have either on hand) One of them has a Masterclass on painting LOTR Ogres or something like that. It has a tut on painting blackened swords. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211256-painting-black-metal/#findComment-2513325 Share on other sites
muadib02
Reaper makes two paints which could be used for this. Adamantine Black and Blackened Steel. Adamantine Black is like chaos black with a bit of a metalic sheen to it Blackened Steel looks like true blued gunmetal (think M16 colouration) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211256-painting-black-metal/#findComment-2513673 Share on other sites
Jofus
Another thing to try is mixing 3 parts Chaos Black to 1 part Boltgun Metal. I have done a 1 to 1 mix and it comes out dark but I think what you are looking for would be darker. Alternatively GW has a tutorial on how to paint a Chaos Knight also, just follow how they painted the armor plates if they have the look that you where going for. Lestat
Vallejo Paints does a metallic medium which can be added to paints for a metallic effect. A 50/50 mix is recommended, but experimenting is always the best option. ImperialReaper
I would keep it simple and give it a try just by mixing chaos black and bolt gun metal 1:1 or 2:1 Boltgun Metal already is fairly dark so with chaos black it should come out as an pretty dark but metallic tone. crazychib
I'm using a 3:1 mix Chaos Black to Boltgun Metal on my Necron weapons. Washed with Badab Black, then a highlight of Boltgun Metal on the edges. Might need a bit more black for the effect you are after.
