Malcador

Indeed, maybe Malcador is little more than an avatar for the Emperor's will? I often considered it, though I have found his appearance in Nemesis and the Flight of the Eisenstein to be contrary to that notion. He seems a little like Iblis Ginjo from the Legends of Dune novels, in that he is doing the right things for the wrong reasons, or achieving the right things the wrong way.
Has Malcador's longevity, and abilities come from the Emperor Himself? That the Emperor channels His will through Malcador? Or places a part of Himself in him?

I think it much more likely Malcador was given a power boost by the Emperor than him being the Emperor's puppet. The Emperor channels his will through Malcador only in the sense that he gives Malcador orders.

I think this is probably it. In the same was as the Emperor looks at John Grammaticus in Legion and says about him being 'one of us', the Emperor probably realised Malcador was a considerably powerful psyker, and put him into his employ.

I actually like the theory that Malcador is actually the Emperor and the big shiny golden guy is the puppet. Malcador dying on the throne messes with that though <_<

Isn't that what the Emperor has supposedly been doing all through history though? Guiding humanity's leaders, hidden, rarely taking direct control and never openly. After a few dozen millennia of trying that, he realized it didn't work and finally went out there saying "okay, I'm taking charge, I rule!" and proceeded to kick the arse of most of humanity (until they agreed he was in charge, anyway).

(Incidently, I have read everything there is on the fella, save stuff from Collected visions and listening to any information on audio books, though I don't know if they really mention him?)

I suggest you go and read the Collected Visions stuff. If you still think he's a heretic or a traitor after that then all I can say is that the Emperor could do with a few more heretics!!

Malcador was the Emperor's equerry, making it possible to enact imperial policy which would be found unfavorable for the image of the emperor, but necessary in the way of politics.

This made it also possible to control the assassins guilds without any negative blowback for the emperor himself for example.

. Also was Malcador the public face in most of the day to day business in the Imperium, through which most of the "less important" decisions were made, the exactors (taxmen) policy for imperial tithes which infuriorated most of the military branch coming to mind. Being an alpha plus class psyker would certainly be a big plus in such things.

There could be no way that Malcador would ever betray the emperor, especially when he sacrificed his life on the golden throne!
