calgaryBA
These are my new favorite toys. I had nothing short of epic success with them last night.
Son Of Moriar
I should think so too....... obviously your opponent had a hard time dealing with them as he couldn't see them perhaps??? AHEM !! Blood Angels are good at camoflague techniques but these schemes are terrific.
R0N1N
I've been playing 1-2 of them ever since the codex landed. They're prety awesome arn't they ;) Especially if you load the Furioso with a frag cannon on 1 arm and keep the fist arm with the melta, aad the manga grapple and voila, instant death to anything close B) Just drop the dread next to some armour and pop it with some shooting (preferebly from somewhere else, then frag cannon and melta the $h%t out of what was inside, if all fails you still have 2 high ST low AP shots (melta & Magna) that can pop pretty much anything. Should you not be able to open anything then the dread can still do that just as good, this morning I played a game where the dread opened 2 chaimeira's with 1 frag cannon shot... 1 exploded killing half the IG (even better... :P ) How did you play it? what support units do you have close by, because believe me, the enemy will be all over that dread the mooment it dropped... biglou666
i find that a well placed furioso makes the perfect distraction, aswell as a bit of rear armour melting potential. the moment that i drop an angry dread, half the opponents force turns round. they draw an awesome amount of fire, and probably will die, but once theyve wasted their first turn concentrating on the furioso, all of your assault infantry are on top of them by turn two. awesome tactic. Nachocuban
Just drop the dread next to some armour and pop it with some shooting (preferebly from somewhere else, then frag cannon and melta the $h%t out of what was inside I believe this is illegal, as you can't shoot units that get out of destroyed transports the same turn as they are forced to disembark, to represent all shooting taking place at the same time. You are remembering the rule incorrectly. The thing you are talking about is on page 67 and is referring to the unit popping it, (say with the dreads melta,) then shooting in with different weapons form the same units, (then using the frag cannon.) It is still perfectly legal to destroy the transport with say a Dev squad and then let the furriso shoot at the disembarked passengers. calgaryBA
I was just using the old pewter model I've had for years and a coke can as a proxy for the drop pod. I didn't give it any extra war gear or anything. We had a little 1000 point mini friendly tournament at a guy's house last night so I was trying out some cheap alternatives. Now I went out and bought some drop pods, and 2 ironclad dreadnoughts to make 2 more furioso's, one with 2 chain fists, the other with 2 of the larger fists. I like the chain fists because I can use them as either talons, or regular dread CCW's. I also made up the arms of whatever that grenade launcher arm thing is to swap out if I ever equip the furiosos with frag assault launchers (looks like a suitable model IMO) What a fantastic unit that's just plain old fun. I can't wait to try a fun list with 3 of these bad boys on the table. I can see myself using 2 of them very regularly now though. What's everybody's thoughts on the drop pods? Worth paying 20 points for the deathwind missle launchers?
R0N1N
The 20 points in my oppinion is too much for what you get. The enemy will either just move out of range or destroy the pod 1st while they are right next to it. If however you have a lot of support rushing up to help the dread then the opponent might focus more on the oncomming force than worry about a droppod, but with a missile launcher it will pose a bigger thread. I find that they tend to leace the pod if there is only a storm bolter on it, and then they pay. Many a time that storm bolter shot the 5 man squads camping in the back and forced then to run
calgaryBA
...The enemy will either just move out of range or destroy the pod 1st while they are right next to it... It can't fire on the turn it arrives like the bolter? Does it follow the the vehicle weapon firing chart then?

It can't fire on the turn it arrives like the bolter? Does it follow the the vehicle weapon firing chart then? The Drop Pod counts as moving at Cruising Speed when it arrives from Reserves so it can't fire on the turn it comes down. The strength of its weapons don't matter in this case - it's simply moving too fast.
Gumo9
I've always found it ridiculous that the drop pod can't fire its weapon to cover disembarking troops! G
