Old can of worms I keep dragging back

chapter master 454

Recommended Posts

Ok as many fluff people know, I've tryed to crowbar into my chapter a very very highly rejected idea but now I come back with the same idea but different in the sense it's sensible (at least, by comparison).

So my idea is the long running 'soul sword' where a persons soul has a piece taken from it and used to create a seperate entity within a blade to create the same effects as a daemon sword but with near no chance of the reciever having to 'break in' or get used to the sentient presense in the blade itself. Ofcourse while there's no long term drawbacks, the effects can effectively destroy a persons sanity and they become un-controllable and need a bolt round to the head because no-one else can really use the blade (the soul piece inside doesn't really want to listen and may hamper the new users ability) and second off the insane person may use this blade on anything and since it's power can be compared to a daemon weapon (albeit weaker in effect) one doesn't like madmen running around with this sort of power.

The creation of this weapon comes from a chaos sorcerer's research into making more stable and controllable daemon swords. He comes up with the idea to sue a persons soul to power a weapon and becomes able to perform it. The weapons power and possible effects it can have vary on the souls personality and part of the soul taken and even amount taken (Ofcourse, more soul taken, higher chance of sanity doing the two foot over the edge trick). The blade can ether go aflame and scorch all it touchs with a meer touch or possibly invoke terror in those who see even a glimmer of it's blade. Whatever the effect however it's all the same, if the person's sanity can survive being spilt from a part of it's soul then the person has no further ordeals with the blade bar needing to not argue with oneselfs own soul (which is hard to do, you'd be argueing with yourself and falling out with yourself is a feat worthy of a medal in the shape of a bolt shell in the head).

The term 'soul sword' is a misleading factor of a name: the process which makes them actually pretty much lets the soul shape the weapon itself. Just that in most cases it's some form of a sword but it can be hammer, axes or even gauntlets.

This is all for a new idea for my chapter master who is yet again (I change ideas more often than ADHD traffic lights :) ) going through a change and this time it's in a direction of becoming a renegade chapter master. He leaves his chapter with a few of his closest brothers and wages a personal vendetta against the imperium as he sees it corrupted by not chaos but weakness of the mind and strength of greed.

The design has him wielding two swords: hebikuroi (now just a simple katana, no shape changing messing around) and a weapon forcefully given to him, a daemon sword called wrat-ck (basicly say wrath but suddenly cut out mid 'th' and say 'ck'. it's a play on words being both wrath and wrack) whch is pretty much never draws. he also only fights with his right arm, his left arm covered by a thick blade cape that flows over both arms but the left one always remains hidden. The left arm is supposed to be corrupted by the daemon sword that wields it and thus to prevent it getting worse he refuses, not only, to use the daemon sword but also the arm itself (which has thus never be severed under any chance it has been given).

Ofcourse he is being hunted but he only goes around on a small craft unidentifiable from other trader ships with five other marines. They basicly help train and seed rebellion in the imperium and cause it hell. At the same time they help any planet attacked by chaos and maybe even on some occasions put a few melta chanrges into a inquisitors ships plasma reactor.

What are your thoughts on the most 'disgraced and falling angel' idea for my chapter master. (he has the soul sword from an encounter with the sorcerer who made them, he was the first and last experiment the sorcerer worked on but other apprentices carried on his work).

hope this can get at least some approval from the community. been fighting to get my idea into the 40k universe for what is it now? coming on ether half a year or 3 quarters!

Sounds like a prety serious long term drawback right there to be honest! :D

The left arm is supposed to be corrupted by the daemon sword that wields it and thus to prevent it getting worse he refuses, not only, to use the daemon sword but also the arm itself (which has thus never be severed under any chance it has been given).

Do you mean the sword weilds the arm (as written) or that the arm is corrupted by weilding the sword? In either case you have a problem with your story - if the arm is weilded by the sword - then your chapter master probably cant stop using it (as its not under his control). If its the arm weilding the sword - why did he weild it so much that it corrupted his arm that much, but now refuses to wield it?

And I dont understand what you mean here:

which has thus never be severed under any chance it has been given

can you rephrase this?

Then we have this:

Ofcourse he is being hunted but he only goes around on a small craft unidentifiable from other trader ships with five other marines. They basicly help train and seed rebellion in the imperium and cause it hell. At the same time they help any planet attacked by chaos and maybe even on some occasions put a few melta chanrges into a inquisitors ships plasma reactor

A small craft that is warp capable will pick up a massive amount of interest - simply because it is so out of the ordinary! The imperium have bulk cargo craft to do the warp travel and small intersystem ships to shuttle stuff around in-system. Small warp capable craft, you're talking mega-rich planetary lords or similar, or High Imperial Functionaries or Inquisitors. All of which tend to make people very interested in exactly who is in the craft. How small are we talking? Presumably it has a non-marine crew? Otherwise its not a Warp-capable craft. Which means new recruits, techpriests, supplies, etc, etc.

Not that I'm against the idea of a small group of marines rebeling, but you seem to be suggesting that they are capable of a vast amount of mischief, with no resources.

To be fair these could be marines from the chapter's tenth company. And a few black library books have featured this sort of idea more than a few times with various different chapters.

As for the idea itself, I think it does have merit but you might want to think about a few of the disadvantages and facts relating to the weapon; such as the problem with the arm pointed out above.
