Cleaning large surfaces

Let's say you have a large plastic surface that has an unwanted symbol or feature on it (big skull, chaos star, some pattern, etc). What is your preferred method of removing such features?

 

- File it off?

- Scrape it off with the X-Acto?

- Something else?

personally, i prefer to try to clip as much of it off as possible then using a file smoothen out surface. Any mistakes can easily be filled in again with green stuff.

- first clip any possible stuff with side cutters

- cut any other stuff with a hobby knife

- file any surface

- sandpaper used wet

I use a Dremel with a very light touch...you won't need much. After that, I just sand it to remove the toolmarks.

Snipe/cut as much as possible, slice off whatever that is left and sand. I use sanding sticks... the type that women use for their nails... Works great. Essentially sandpaper on a stick. If there are any imperfections, single part putties work better than 2-part epoxies. Finer grain and sandable too.
