brolthemighty
Alright, so a buddy of mine has a fairly substantial Daemons army. He has a "high vision" of what he wants for it, but it outstrips his willingness and skill to do it himself. He knows that I've recently been in search of a commissioner myself, so he asked me to find out some pricing and options for him. So I come to B&C again. First I'll post what he has/is aiming to have, then I'll detail his grand vision. 5 SoulGrinder 40 Fleshhound 36 Screamer 60 Horrors 2 Tzeentch Herald - Custom Conversions w/ discs or something 112 Bloodletters 2 Khorne Herald (one on Jugger one walking) 16 Bloodcrushers 6 Bloodthirster 24 flamers 1 Daemon Prince 25 Plaguebearers Karanak Changeling Uraka (FW Khorne Daemon Prince) Skulltaker Blue scribes - Custom conversion wanted Lord of change Skarbrand - Custom Conversion Fateweaver Mamon Yeah, that's a whopping army. He had gotten hit pretty hard in an Apoc army, and decided to be ready for next time I guess, lol. Anyways, his grand vision is that instead of having a force that focuses on one or two of the Chaos Gods...he'd like an army that's centered around the Soul Grinder Forge idea. So all the models would have a (and these are his words) "Steampunkish/bionic look to them." He already has a the FW Daemon Prince with a bluish skin/brass armor look to it, and he likes that scheme....so wants everything that scheme. The job would entail building some models (the ones that need entirely replaced,) converting EVERYTHING, custom bases to fit the scheme (unless someone can recommend some of the resin bases that might fit the scheme) and of course painting. The basic infantry and such would have a Tier 1 paint job, w/ the special characters and command type daemons having a Tier two...with centerpiece models receiving the higher levels. I understand this is a huge untertaking, and will require a good bit of money, but this is what he wants. He has no family, and no other hobby than 40k, so I guess he has the money. Can anyone point me in the right direction at least? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211595-help-finding-a-commissioner-for-a-buddy/ Share on other sites
MattCrawford
You're best off going to a gaming store (preferably a Games Workshop) and asking around the staff/regulars if they're interested. Assembly and T1 painting could be done with friends, and the upper level painting/conversion work can be done by a pro. There are reputable people who do this on the net, but I would always play it safe and go for someone you can actually meet and discuss the project with. BOBMAKENZIE
Thats alot of models for one person to do. He might be better off looking at breaking down the Project into smaller groups to different people. brolthemighty
Unfortunately, I can't go to a local game shop or GW....I'm stationed in northern Japan. I agree, it would be better off split up, the problem being that then the conversions might not match. Unless I get them all converted by one...and then sent off to multiple people to paint....but then the paintjobs might not match :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211595-help-finding-a-commissioner-for-a-buddy/#findComment-2517565 Share on other sites
winterdyne
I'm happy to work on very large commissions, and I work to a high standard. If he's got the cash, I've got the time, and I've had some cancellations in my queue... brolthemighty
Winterdyne, I'm really impressed with your stuff. I know your stuff is a little pricier, but you get what you pay for. Could I get a quote and a time estimate? He's going to be away serving for the next 6-12 months, and so will have the time to wait for quality. Edit: One of the obstacles of working w/ his army is the need to cleanup though. winterdyne
PM'd with an itemised list and having done the math (eeek, scary!). For those that care, I reckon the final bottom line on the job would be about £10k - £12k, and about 60 weeks turnaround once everything is taken into account. We've had a discussion about silly-big commissions before...
