mughi3
At our local store we have a guy who builds up lists to do battle in GTs and other competative tourneys as such his armies are always maxed out for thier killing power. additionally he is a great painter. the irony is that i often beat his competative armies with my fluff based list. He has a new army i had yet to encounter. an emperors chidlren noise marine list. he added some oblits to get it up to 2,250(it is normally a 2K list for touneys) otherwise his army is HQ X2 greater demons with lash Troops X2 tactical squads X2 rhino dedicated transports X2 noise/numbered squads Elites .terminators with land raider dedicated transport Heavy support X2 vindicator X1 squad of 3 oblits. http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/batreps/k19182010.jpg MY army is my usual- HQ libby in terminator armor with storm shield, avenger/gate powers master of teh forge with PW/full harness Troops 1.full tac squad(missile/flamer/PF/melta bomb 2.scouts cammo cloaks bolters, shotguns and a missile launcher, PF/MB on sarge Elite X3 venerable las/missile dreads Fast .land speeder tyhoon squad(2) .assault marine squad (PF/MB/SS on sarge) .land speeder storm Heavy support X3 ironclad dreads with the works http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/batreps/pzb9112010.jpg The game was 12" deployment with 3 objectives. He went first so i kept most things in reserve. i am kind of tired tonight so i will give a brief run down of what happened before i fall asleep at the computer. It was mostly a shooting warfor me at first. i shot one of hs demons to death and took the other down to one wound, than managed to shot it to death as well. i lost a venerable dread and my libby with his combat teamed tac sqquad inthe exchange. he lashed me 2 times, but only one went off, it was however good enough to set me up for the noise marines sonic weapons. My assault squad came in and tied up one of his tac units but he managed to throw his terminators in to save them. amazingly the sarge survived the entire ordeal thanks to his storm shield. hoever he was forced to fall back and be over-run. i did manage to immobilise the raider. my unkillable storm zipped in flat out, and spent 2 turns of shrugging of fire before it off loaded it's troops. I managed to get my ironclads in and tie up several units, At the end of the game i managed to contest 2 of the 3 objectives being just out of contecting the 3rd and going for a tie. i was litterally like half an inch outside of the 3" line. Even though i lost my libby early i was still very happy with how my army performed given the competative nature of my opponant. Losses .X1 ironclad .X1 venerable dread .7 tac marines .2 scouts .epistolary librarian His losses .X2 greater demons .3 oblits .rhino .a handful of marines .vindicator gun X1 The pictures- http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/batreps/k29182010.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/batreps/k39182010.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/batreps/k49182010.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/batreps/k59182010.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/batreps/k69182010.jpg http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i112/mughi3/batreps/k79182010.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211623-taking-on-tough-noise-marines/ Share on other sites
minigun762
So what do you think performed well, both on your side and his? Anything stand out as performing poorly? mughi3
Well in all honesty i expected it to be a tough list and it was. what i think helped me a bit is that his meta-game build is understandably focused on killing marines, not dreads. There was the odd fluke dice roll as normal but overall things performed as i expected. my storm defied the odds and shugged off so much fire with it's flat out save(2nd game in a row doing this) it was kind of suprising, my assualt sarg did something similar when he alone survived the majority of attacks form the tac squad and a terminator squad thanks to his storm shield(he died to overrun when he failed his LD check). The game ended up being so very close to ao total tie overall (by less than half an inch) that i was happy with it's performance. when i can take a fluff list against a crushing tournament WAAC list and come out this close it is a good day indeed. minigun762
Did you really notice the benefit from your shooty Dreads being Venerable? I couldn't help but think that if you went with normal Dreads, you'd have enough points to field another unit or two. EDIT: Same thing with the Ironclads with everything. Oh dear emperor's sweet boxers yes. the way i roll dice i need to hit on 2+ and have the venny re-roll. however more than that this is a fluff army as such there is no such thing as "normal" dreads. if you survive life as a scout (5th company) you go into either the tactical (2nd)company or if you excel in CC/ fast vehicles you go into the 3rd company. life threatening wounds that cannot be healed means you end up in the 4th company as an ironclad dread. excelling as an ironclad or a particalrly suicidal act of valor by a skilled vetran gets you into the 1st company as a venerable dread. minigun762
Ahh I see. Good fluff arguement I think, nice to see someone sticking to their guns when it comes to their army's theme.
