Glitch85
Hey all Im just getting back into 40k after about 10 years away from it all, got straight back into Blood Angels where I left off. Just got a quick question, was wondering if any of you have done the vanguard vet helmets a different colour other than gold like in the codex. Regards Stu. Zekk_Sirius
Well, you could also do them yellow. In heraldic terms, yellow and gold are really interchangeable. There also isn't really a need to identify a Vanguard Squads' "type" because their company symbol should show it easy enough. Two yellow helmeted Assault squads? See the ones with a skull instead of a coloured blood-drop? Vanguard.
JamesI
I did mine in red (but to be fair, I do all my helmets in red other than Chaplains and DC)
WarpWalker
Straight up blood angels vets are gold unless your a second founding chapter. But like Zekk said yellow could work. At first glance I'd mistake them for assault marines.

WarpWalker
I agree, you shouldn't run them bare bones. I just said at first glance I would. I hate the gold, yellow and blue helmets. So I did a second founding army so I wouldn't have to deal with 'em.
SnorriSnorrison
I painted mine yellow. Why, some may ask? It has been the scheme since 3rd Edition, when I started to paint and play Blood Angels. Gold was reserved for Honour Guard only. Snorri
Glitch85
Cheers for the replies I think I'm gonna go with yellow. I'm planning on running them all with 1 lightening claw with the sergeant having a pair.

Vanguard Vets are pretty much close to the old Veteran Assault Squads which traditionally had yellow helmets and Skulls for their chapter symbol as that was the mark of the 1st company. I reserve gold for my honour guards.
Brother Chris
Well, they were yellow until April this year and I don't intend to repaint them all to fit in with a bit of poor continuity in the new Codex. I already thought the number of gold helmets was getting silly with the old codex so my foot honour guard are all bare-headed.
