Want to play Blood Angels

I have alot of extra marines that are unpainted laying around and I play my 2 brothers a few times a month and win most games against their armies, one ork and one IG infantry. I was just getting board with all the compinations of C:SM and miss the old librarian play style which i noticed librarians of the blood angels still posses, CC beasts. This has me thinking of making an Blood Angel army. But with out currently owning a codex i was just curious if they can do well enough to take out an orc army in 2000pts of say 130 models and an ig infantry army with 140+ models. Before i go buy the codex and Baal's will these guys cause mayhem? Thanks for any insight you can give me into their army before i start one up.

Ork horde armies are very, very easy to deal with as BA.

You multiple charge every boyz squad. (They tend to overlap in at least one area by necessity of getting the Mek's Coversave.)

Do it with something that can reach the extra squad if ones hanging out a little farther. So say, and assault squad.

It won't need to live, (in fact it will most assuredly die), but it will need to make the whole pile one combat.

Now charge one or two Furioso's and a big angry hero'd out squad into the side of the pile. (So they all hit into one squad (or maybe two), which after already piling in will be the only squad to hit back).

Annihilate one of the squads. Watch the rest lose combat by ~40(or more, depending on how your assault squad did before it died) and evaporate to fearless saves.

Generally, its not to hard to get horde Orks to stay clumped either, you can dictate how they move by simply keeping your own army clumped.

Completely different games against IG Horde.

Conga lines against spread out & shooty. You need to be fast and move precisely so that when you do charge, only one or two marines are in range to attack. That way, you don't break them and you are safe during their shooting phase (where you WILL break them). Rince/repeat.

Against the 50 man 5 PWs and a Commissar blobs, you can use flamers and pie plates.

But really, all you need are Death Company and a Chaplain. Give them some power weapons, and don't let them go in alone. They'll hit on 3's and kill on 2's with rerolls. Its an expensive squad, and you need to give them a transport that assures them the charge, (Raven/LR) but you'll kill 35 outright on a bad day. With support, probably simply nom the blob.

I mean, practically, these are bad answers because they tailor and in a tournament setting you'll eventually play something that will be paper to your rock.

1v1 against that guy in the store, this will work fine.

PS: Fearless is a liability, the same principle will work for Nids. Charge all the MCs and a blob gaunt squad with a throwaway squad. Then hit your big bad squad into the gaunts, and watch as the MC's all have to take 20~ fearless saves.

I second this.

Played a guy at a local tourny a few weeks back 1500 pts. He had a Epidermus list so nothing that shot any long range very slow very tough but not super competitive by any imagination. Long story short. shot some things up the engaged with a huge Multi charge hitting all his units bar one, using 2/3rds of my army to string across to touch all his units took no wound from his pathetic nurgle poisin thanks to termie armor plus priest and the rest of the combat being a chaplin meph lib dread and an assualt squad. Past my 2 SS invuns thathis nurgle greater daemon forced me to make, one combat by 18 and watched all 6 different units I had engaged just explode to fearless saves. I got tabled and I didn't loose a guy, granted with some nice saves but you see the effictiveness of a good multi charge. My most rediculous win to date.

Regards
