Metal Apostle
Hey folks, i rarely to tuts but this is a pretty simple piece and i happened to have my phone next to me so i took stage by stage photos. Pretty straightforward detail to add some character to your more 'savage' models; nothing fancy as far as technique goes. All this takes is the patience to take it step by step in simple geometric shapes; i won't say rushing into it will stuff you up, but it will increase the chances of you squashing something if you're working on something else before other parts have hardened! So on with it. This is a talisman i've put on the shoulder of a White Scars terminator. The necklace: http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu327/Twisted-Sister/WTN1.jpg - Roll out 2 thin strings of green stuff and put them where you like. Make the arc of the string pointing downwards (gravity tends to do that!) I've made double necklaces in this case. - Cap the ends of it off either with a small ball of green stuff to represent studs holding it down, or in this case, i've used plastic rivets which can be bought separately at modelling stores. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu327/Twisted-Sister/wtn2.jpg - Roll some small balls of greenstuff until they're slightly pointed on one end. If they end up slightly curved, that's ok, in fact it's preferable. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu327/Twisted-Sister/wtn3.jpg - Carefully place them along the string so that the fatter end is just touching the bottom of the string. As you're gently pushing them against the surface to make them stick, gently push the pointy end in any direction to make it more fang-like http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu327/Twisted-Sister/wtn4.jpg - Poke a small hole at the top of each tooth http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu327/Twisted-Sister/wtn5.jpg - Roll a short, very thin length of green stuff and place one end at the hole you just poked, and tuck the other end around the string so that it overlaps the string. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu327/Twisted-Sister/wtn6.jpg - If you choose to do multiple links as though it has been tied on, put a slightly wider piece on and make horizontal lines across the top of the tooth, and vertical lines around the string. I've done this for one particularly large tooth. Horsetail Talisman I've made one to decorate one of the studs. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu327/Twisted-Sister/wtn7.jpg - Essentially just a lengthy blob with the lower end tapered to a rough point. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu327/Twisted-Sister/WTN8.jpg - Long, fairly continuous lines are carefully pushed into it. If this were a wolftail talisman, the form would be first made with rough 'V' shapes, which would then be detailed by pressing shorter lines along it; but essentially the same idea. I know it's a fairly simple decoration, but hope you've enjoyed this :) Ps. Please excuse the somewhat blurry photos, my phone cam isn't the best at macro..
