Bionics

Recommended Posts

I saw the bionics tutorial http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...howtopic=195209 a while ago and thought it was some pretty nice work, but it was in existing armor. What I was looking for was more stand alone. Made it out of plastic tubing. I'm pretty happy with the arm.

The leg and hand I don't seem to be having the same luck with, but I think just by making a fist instead will solve some of that. Suggestions would be great.

Ehhhh, they look kind of brittle and thin. There's not enough heft and bulk to them to seem like they'd work for a Space Marine. Definitely a good job, though.

I agree. Maybe just use them for IG/Inq?

Anyway, they do look great though ;)

They are well put together enough, but I've always had a problem with exposed bionics. If it is a temporary field replacement I can understand it being bare, but if it's done pre-battle, why not put some armor over it?

Try putting a shinguard on the leg and a vambrace on the arm. That'll add to the bulk and they won't look like they'll snap off from lasgun or slugga fire.

That's some really good work. The bionic structure is a very good skeletal analog. I agree with the need for wiring, hoses, and plating.

I think once you add some of those elements, it'll look much beefier and sturdier. If you look at any of the GW-made bionic parts, they all look strudier because they're reinforced with armor plating and have cabling and hoses bound inside the skeletal piston/shaft structure.

All good advice, thank you. Looking back on the Iron Hands box set they had one leg that looked similar but had a knee pad on it. ;) Armor, or more specifically parts from power armor look like the way to go. Plus hoses, cables, and wiring.

Funny you mentioned a slugga. I was thinking about an Ork bionic arm with a little green stuff to give it that grafted on look.

Final verdict: beef up those skeletons

** Modeling disclaimer** Yes, I absolutely agree, Haunter!, exposed bionics IS a problem, as much so as marines running around a battle field with out a helmet on... Then again I have a problem with a plasma gun that has a tendency to act more as a plasma grenade for operational field usage. But from a modeling perspective it looks cool :)
