Ash Tekka
I'm working on an Arjac figure and thought it would be great to have him either striding through the remains of kraken he's killed or have him standing on an out cropping overlooking the sea with kraken tentacles slithering up the rocks reaching for him. I realized I don't really know what kraken look like. I'm visualizing something like giant squid or a tyranid with alot of tentacles. I don't recall ever seeing any pictures of what one looks like and would like to model it in a way that its not mistaken for a tyranid. So has anyone seen any pictures or does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do? MaveriK
you pretty much have the right idea.. its usually a giant squid or octopus. look up a wolf brother named TeamLando! he did a beautiful job on one http://coolminiornot.com/205338 you can also look up Man 'O War, and they have an old Kraken figure. Grey Mage
A Kraken kind of looks like a giant, scaly, squid. About the size of Long Island when 'full sized'. Id reccommend just a tentacle or a banner showing him thrashing it. Ash Tekka
Ok So tentacles wouldn't be too out of the question then. I'm thinking maybe one large one draped across the base that's cut/smashed open and one or two more starting to reach from the water. From reading Arjac's story in the codex it seems like the krakens can move on land too or did I just read it wrong? Grey Mage
Your a little off... he didnt fight Kraken. He fought Kraken-spawn. Think of them like Raveners. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211795-krakens/#findComment-2520224 Share on other sites

TeamLando
I did a Diorama depicting a Kraken battle a year or two ago, but it was a baby kraken, the real Fenrisian krakens seems to be a lot bigger, huge and monster-like (I actually intend to create a diorama sequel to my kraken diorama, with a "real" kraken.. on a 50x50-ish base... some day ). Anyway, if you read some in older the tyranid codex, the section about off world tyranids actually mentions the fenrisian kraken to be a tyranid breed. So that's why I amde him look kinda Tyranid-ish and added a surfing ripper as funny touch xD I also tried to use som spare tyranid bits to the parts I already sculpted myself. The main bulk of the monster, for example, is sculpted, while the teeth and scales are tyranid bits ;) http://img83.imageshack.us/img83/8695/krakenpicturevh9.jpg Mor info, here: http://coolminiornot.com/205338 And I also had a WIP-thread somewhere, which might help ya build one :P Ah yes, here it it: http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/index.p...=kraken+diorama Some more hi-res pictures of it there aswell :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211795-krakens/#findComment-2520355 Share on other sites
Ash Tekka
Lando I love that kraken. especially the surfing dude:) Thats actually the style I'm going to try for I think. GreyMage: Not sure what a Ravener is but I'll go see if I can google them or something... *EDIT* ok looked them up, cool looking but kind of expensive just to use as base decoration... Grey Mage
Well you dont need a whole one- the kit comes with optional extra tails if I recall, you could talk to your local nid player and arrange for some bitz to be swapped. Ash Tekka
Went to the local GW to eyball the kits. He recommended using a venomthrope and disecting it to use. not a bad idea but being a metal model I think it might be hard to modify. He also gave me the idea of doing a scenic base to display my terminator squad that I may take a stab at. Its a major project though so it will have to be put on the back burner for a little while Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211795-krakens/#findComment-2522676 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Fair enough, and that would actually probly go really well- the steps leading up to it, and about 4-500pts of nidz charging up to rip them to shreds.... Could be a good excuse to have a second army, when the time comes ;).
