That depends what ships you use... they have points value... with the rules on the BFG section of the GW site. From what I've been reading about Eldar 1-4 Cruisers/light cruisers andmaybe 20 odd escort ships (apparently escorts make or break eldar lists) depending on what you take and how many cruisers you have... Marines... Maybe a few BBs.... SCs and escorts but I don't really know... Grey Mage
SM escorts are around 40-50pts a peice, the strike cruisers are about 150, and the Battle Barge is 425.... Strike Cruisers are the backbone of the fleet, and you can have 1 per 1k pts, rounding up. Edit, youll also need a master of fleet, wich runs 50pts with options. All the rules are downloadable from GW. Go to their site, specialist games, BFG, downloads- all the rules, including armada, for free. Vaaish
To add to what's already been said, you really don't want to do an eldar vs marine matchup. Eldar break all of the normal BFG rules and the short range batteries on marines will make it hard to retaliate unless the eldar player messes up. For a marine fleet, there are two main routes that are typically taken. The first is to take two battlebarges and fill out the remaining points with escorts, usually hunters and gladius. The second is take all strike cruisers and fill the remaining points with escorts again. Going with two battlebarges you are looking at maybe 12 escorts so 14 ships total. Going all strike cruisers maybe 8 capital ships and 8 escorts so a total 16 ships. Of course you could change this up. If you mix in IN or Chaos, you are looking at a maximum of 7 capital ships in a 1500 point game if you include a battleship. This can change if you go heavy escorts. Brother_Fatiswon
i was thinking about getting a SM fleet so i could rep my Fleet based chapter, so, at first glace, i think I'll go with the dual BB+escorts. As the why Eldar, 1st, when BFG 1st came out I loved the void stalker... Today, it would match my Chapter's fluff to be all about getting back at any and all Eldar. after down loading the rules from GW, and looking thru the images, i'm thinking about a Dark eldar pirate fleet, due to the rules, and the fact they only use 2 kinds of ships but, each can be upgraded with the "add-on" pack. maybe even kit bash/gang press a few craft world escort ships into a Service. it's either that or continue to build my Invader up past 3,000 points(at 2,685 at the moment), which, i don't know.. i feel like i should start a 2nd game, or other 40k army. But I gone through burn out, before, when trying to keep up with building/modeling/painting and play 3 diff armies (craft'dar, kult of speed, and a DIY loyalist marine chapter) maybe a 1,000 point cap would be better/ or maybe i should get my self to the store and get a double pack of super glue and get back to my Invaders.. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211813-bfg-at-1500-points/#findComment-2520810 Share on other sites
Vaaish
CWE can't normally take the void stalker, but a VS and teh rest of your points in nightshades/ hemlocks makes for one of the most powerful fleets in BFG. IIRC it's something like 24 escorts and the VS. That gives you four squadrons of six escorts split between nightshades and hemlock to taste. Quite a lot of the very good eldar ordnance and pulsar lances combined with the 2+ save against lances and a WB shift vs most anything makes for an extremely difficult to take down fleet especially with the eldar double movement allowing them to dart into range and run away before you can return fire. Just for the sake of comparison, a squadron of six IN firestorms on lock on will score approximately 4.5 hits. A squadron of six hemlocks for the same cost will score ~10 hits. Comparatively, that is enough to cripple a battle barge in a single pass unless it braces while the firestorms would do little more than drop the shields on the barge. Captain Idaho
You know, you can fit 2 Battle Barges and 4 Strike Cruisers in a fleet as well. It might not be as competetive, but it would surely be fun to use against a friendly opponent (basically anyone not taking an Eldar or Necron fleet!)? Hellios
FYI in bits GW has on their site a Craftworld assault mission (for nids but easy to modify for marines) exists... being that you are Invaders... maybe that would be a good end of campaign mission for you :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211813-bfg-at-1500-points/#findComment-2520942 Share on other sites
