angryswarmofbees
Starting work on my own DIY chapter and I was wondering if any new forgeworlds are ever founded? The Normish
I think they build new ones, but not often. I mean, the needs of the Imperium are always growing, right? Captain Tezdal
I'd imagine new forgeworlds are founded in the "modern" 40k era, but probably a very, very rare event. Like the discovery of some planet stock full of adamantium or whatever your sci-fi metal of choice, something like that to entice the Ad-Mech to stick around rather then just set up a mining colony or whatnaught. Octavulg
I've always suspected Forge Worlds kind of...accrue. I mean, one day you have a mining colony. Then you discover that it'd be cheaper to build most of the mining equipment there. So you set up a factory. Then you set up some barracks to defend it. Then some factories to supply the Skitarii. Then some factories for surrounding systems. Next thing you know you've got several Titan Legions, are supplying most of the sector with bolt shells, and have run out of ore on the planet. So you set up a mining colony... Also, I feel obligated to remind/warn you that Space Marine Chapters don't have home worlds on Forge Worlds, so if that's what you're planning...don't. angryswarmofbees
Thanks for the responses. My idea is that the remnants of an ancient supernova have undergone sufficient accretion to warrant in-space harvesting of the stellar material; so no mining colonies! I figure it will be a pretty remote corner of the galaxy and what with the veritable "gold rush" that would ensue the AdMech would want to build a forgeworld to harvest such bountiful supplies. Such an important resource might also be guarded by a space marine chapter. Hence, The Knights Aquila. Not on the same world as each other though! Octavulg
The region would be guarded more than the resource, I'm thinking, but otherwise it seems not unreasonable. minigun762
An interesting alternative to a Forgeworld might be a massive space station or group of stations in orbit. I imagine it being similar to a space hulk but more organized. Hemal
Loved the book, the subtle references, but though that the dismantling of teh Power armour manufactories was a bit more.. substantial? AFter all they reassembled some lines back on Terra AFAIK? And what happened to Ignatum? WHy aren't they mentioned getting back to Terra? And why did Battlefleet Solar let the Mechanicum ships destroy each other and potentially leave an enemy in system? COuldn't they have swung in and destroyed all ships, whether claiming to be allied or not? Apart from that the Titan combats were a bit disappoiting as well, after all an Imperator could have levelled Tempestus pretty much unsupported, unless the enemy titans got in too close, and certainly the Hellstorm cannon and Plasma Annihilator are adequately ranged to outdistance even a Volcano canon. In all Mortis disappointed - so much for their much vaunted and feared Deaths Heads Scouts!!
