BassMattJaxx
Hey all, For my 3rd army I've decided to try something a little different, and the Knights of Blood are it. I've had the idea of doing an army with silver/grey and red as the scheme, but nothing really stood out. However the Knights of Blood popped up, so I felt it was a good opportunity to put my thoughts into actions, and try out a new codex. At this stage I'll be painting up: 2 x 10 Man Assault squads (with jump packs) Captain Sanguinary Priest Death Company & Rhino 2 Predators (Autocannon/Lascannons combo) Which comes in at 1250 Points. I painted this guy up today after trimming my Templar's marine capacity (truth be it I went overboard and bought to many marines - any excuse to start another army really) He's a test mini, with my own tweaks to the colour scheme. Aiming for a 3rd company army at this stage. http://members.iinet.net.au/~mozzey/Minitures/test-mini-1.png http://members.iinet.net.au/~mozzey/Minitures/test-mini-2.png http://members.iinet.net.au/~mozzey/Minitures/test-mini-3.png http://members.iinet.net.au/~mozzey/Minitures/test-mini-4.png http://members.iinet.net.au/~mozzey/Minitures/test-mini-5.png After not painting anything bar black and white for quite a few weeks, I'm fairly happy with the way he turned out (even if I did miss those darn mold lines) Any comments and or feedback is appreciated. Cheers. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211895-knights-of-blood/ Share on other sites
SnorriSnorrison
Hey there, nice mini you painted up. A tip, if you don´t mind: drybrushing is a quick and quite effective way to paint up your soldiers, but the more you paint, you might want to raise the bar of your standard a little bit. For further miniatures, just applying the paint thinned down in two layers will improve your results massively, followed by a Badab Black Wash and some highlights here and there to add shades and give the miniatures more depth. Keep it up! Snorri Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211895-knights-of-blood/#findComment-2520948 Share on other sites
Brother Nathan
As snorri said with the drybrushing. Altough if you ar gonna highlight as hes says you migh want to doit before you frybrush and then again after washing just to bringit out nicely. Lenses dosent quite work as is, probably because its white and painting the lightening thing on lenses that are white... i dunno. maby wash it and do the center again or do it glowy eye style. Free hands look good though i would suggest to go round them again with red just to tidy them up alittle. Purity seal, may want another coulour onthe wax to make it stand out. or highlight with orange?Have you tried script on purity seals? if not and your willing to trypick up a very fine perminant marker and simply squigle some lines on. Makes it look a little more compleate and is quite easy. But definately a good basis you have if you do want to improve! And you dont have to. Base, may want a wee bit of fine sand in between those cobbles just to cover up the black of the base, or even painting it dark brown could help. Now the fun suggestion. You do realise that they are regenagade? so you can do whatever really that you want. chaos parts etc to make them unique etc. It would tempt me if i didnt already have my own chapter. Of course you can compleately ignor my post because this is just a game bt ask for suggestions and thats what you get B) Anyway glad ouve chosen a different chaper from everyone else and i will be watching for more B) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211895-knights-of-blood/#findComment-2521122 Share on other sites
Haunter!
I've been waiting to see someone do these guys! It looks like you've gotten a good handle on the silver. but the red could be brighter if you ask me. Try going one more step up with it. BLACK BLΠFLY
I am really digging the red skull and wings on the silver chestplate. Nice work as well with the insignia on the shoulderpad too. :P 0b :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211895-knights-of-blood/#findComment-2521170 Share on other sites
BassMattJaxx
Cheers for the feedback, will take the suggestions on board  Red is such a fickle colour to get right! I will experiment a bit more and see what I come up with, maybe another coat or 2 of drybrushing with a darker red will do the trick. Highlighting is also something I'll need to add. Might make the eyes yellow, I went with white to try keep within the colours I've used, but as you've said it's a bit iffy. Got 4 more marines base coated, so will post up results in the next day or so, it's a long weekend so trying to make the most of it! Cheers. Forgefather Vulkan
After looking through the codex at these guys I quite like the way you've done these guys as they do have that dark metal look to them. I think as the others have said you need to add some washes and a few highlights to the models but overall these could look really when they're all finished up. Also how did you do your red? By the looks of it it's some sort of drybrush? BassMattJaxx
Forgefather: The red I used was a base coat of chaos black, 2 drybrushed coats of merchite red, and 2 coats of baal red wash. Taking all the suggestions on board I've re-done the red mainly and added a few highlights, as well as re-doing the eyes. Going with fortress grey, gives them an evil and menacing look. I must say I've very pleased with how it's turned out. The base still needs another dip in the sand tray, but that will be done at later date when the rest of the squads done. Any comments and or feedback is appreciated. http://members.iinet.net.au/~mozzey/Minitures/test-mini-6.png Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211895-knights-of-blood/#findComment-2522234 Share on other sites
Brother Nathan
much better. Can you do somhing with the belt buckle? black maby? Still got that mold line on the helm. Must say the lenses look far more menacing, nice job! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211895-knights-of-blood/#findComment-2522323 Share on other sites
MaleOpener
Now, if you don't mine taking advice from a woman ... :D Seriously though, I'd use a black outline to clean up the badge a little. An outline to shape the white shield, and an outline to define the blood drop at the shield's center. Just my opinion, so take it or leave it! :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211895-knights-of-blood/#findComment-2522654 Share on other sites
