Converting Imperial Fists

Recommended Posts

I'm seeking advice on starting a converted force of Imperial Fists

One of my favorite chapters in the imperium is beyond doubt the 'Fists, as i find a lot of appeal in the fact that they are local to Terra AND currently lack some unique models.

It feels a bit off to me that they lack more than shoulderpads and Lysander, so i'm looking at starting my own work because im not one to wait for GW to do something.

So i'm currently drafting some ideas (will post sketches soon) for what i would like to envision this 'unique' style to be, but i'd like to ask others what they think may help me in this matter.

So far:

Will feature an Emperor's Champion (Capt) as tribute to Sigismund.

Will be lead by Lysander.

Would they call upon Librarians?

Would like to utilise Mk 2 or 3 styled armour, yet i'm not sure if i'd go as far as to include purity seals and livery.

I'd like to use thunder-hammers on sergeants.

I'm also playing with the idea of modelling some Legio-Custodes as veterans (i know the Custodes NEVER leave the palace but i'd like to feature perhaps a small 'Initiate' group to work with the 'fist's, just as some 'centre piece' models.)

Any thoughts or criticisms?

Cheers,

Dear Old Cogface.

I'm counting 7(!) bitspacks that you can use for Imperial fists, Lysander, Kantor and the old chaplain from the second edition "supremacy force" (which also contained an IF psycher shoulderpad) currently in the range, I wouldn't really say that GW doesn't pay enough attention to the Imperial Fists. Another IF character wouldn't hurt though. :D

In addition to that you could look for the old Cortez model, as it has fist iconography as well and the 2nd edition IF captain.

There were some nice conversions using the fists from 2nd edition plastic marines or classic fantasy chaos warriors to swap out the vents on IF backpacks, but apart from that I think IFs should look pretty much like any codex chapter.

If you want to hint at their background (bonecarving, Bolter drill/marksmanship/recruiment) you could add stuff like small bone pendants or a honoris ballistica here and there maybe and some marines/scouts with gang tattoos or ritual scars etc.

The IF also use the iron skull (red in color) and a red helmet stripe to denote the rank of sergeants and standard company colors on shoulderpad rims (the 2nd, 3rd or 5th compay are most common choices, but i think i've also seen a 4th already).

Apart from that I can't think of anything more IF specific.

(By the way in the supremacy force was either one of these sarges one two)
