Your Favourite Unit

It used to be my VV but that has changed of late due to my new HG with 5 meltas and and LC tanks or infantry MC's and low armor saves all feel the might that the angles of death bring.

HG can't get 5 meltas. The Novitiate is not of type Honor Guard and therefore is ineligible for HG upgrades (same reason a sergeant in ineligible for marine upgrades in a tac squad)

For me it's got to be a fully tooled out Tactical squad packed into a rhino. You don't know how much you need one of these until you watch them single handedly charge and hold up an entire Ork Waagh on one side of a battlefield. Some Veteran sergeant's with power weapons are worth their weight in gold.

that version always gets it on the termie sgt.

my current army uses 2 scout squads instead of sanguard... but I still get the blessing on the termie sgt about 1/4 of the time. (damn you dice god). When he gets it, it is my favourate 'unit'. ;)

well favourite single model choice has to be Mephi. No doubt about that.

As for actual squad I'm going with the assault marines, IMO they're the best of the troop choices (and therefore I field two squads for the mandatory choices). Plus they have a decent amount of options to field them in a variety of ways (Razorback, Rhino, jump packs or drop pod and then I'm not even looking at their equipment). Plus I like adding IC's to them.

I considered a similar army list at one point, using Vanguard in place of the terminators. The Vanguard sergeant would be guaranteed the blessing as all other squads would be stuff like Sanguinary Guard, honor guard and attack bikes. Just didn't want to spend the money to try it out.

it would have to be...... and 8 man sternguard veteran squad, with two meltaguns, one seargeant with a powerfist and combi plasma, and then a librarian with unleash and smite.... mabye a sanguinary priest aswell?

i love sternguard, purely beacause you can hold them back OR move them forward, especially with a librarian and priest buffs :)

Can I go with an Assault Squad with a Priest and Astorath? Cos they're brutal.

I know this is all about personal likes and dislikes and I am the n00b stepping out of line in this threat but:

Why would you take a priest AND astorath AND in the same squad?

I am afraid I myself cant decide between Astorath and Gabriel Seth.

They are both awsome - in game and the models themselfes.

Everyone will say all sorts of units, but deep down, looking at the lists we see all the time, they really mean Mephiston! :P

I think the thread was over with this post.

I've only used Mephiston once and that was for a silly apoc game.

I use Astorath, priest, assault squad as a combo all the time.

Astorath provides rerolls to hit, 2+ armor, and strenght 6 attacks. the priest provides furious charge and FNP. Its a great combo.

Only about half your squads will fall to the Red Thirst with Astorath around. I know that I vary from 1/6 to 5/6 of my army falling each week. Then take an assault squad that didn't fall, stick in Astorath and priest and go smash.

Pretty much what James said. Plus with the Assault squad acting as an incredibly pointy meat shield they dish out hurt whenever I field them. And the FnP always gives them that little bit more staying power. And the re-rolls help as well. Plus your opponent has to re-roll any invulnerable saves from Astorath. In my experience which may not be the same as others. This unit combo has killed Calgar and his honour guard in one turn. And Abaddon and his Terminator bodyguard. Obviously they need support to get where they want to be but the end result is always nice. :) But at the end of the day it's all about play styles. I back my guys up with Tactical Support and Preds. And Landspeeders, which have worked wonders for me recently, always getting to Melta the inevitable opposing Landraider before it's loosed off a shot in anger. Great times in the red camp these days.

Oh THIS priest - I thaught you meant a chaplain.

Always get them mixed up because GW uses to translate chaplain into the equivalents of "priest" in most other codexes.

...Scouts. With shotguns. Not the best to field, but I love those little suckers...please forgive the DOOM fan.

Otherwise (and even with them), the Sanguinary Priest. Any body can be tough as nails, but the Sanguinary Priest attachment makes nails look weak. ;)

The GW store manager allowed it without any questions and noone has even doubted it. if they were inelligible then you couldn't equip them with PW or LC either and that doesn't seem right.
