JamesI
It used to be my VV but that has changed of late due to my new HG with 5 meltas and and LC tanks or infantry MC's and low armor saves all feel the might that the angles of death bring. HG can't get 5 meltas. The Novitiate is not of type Honor Guard and therefore is ineligible for HG upgrades (same reason a sergeant in ineligible for marine upgrades in a tac squad) The GW store manager allowed it without any questions and noone has even doubted it. if they were inelligible then you couldn't equip them with PW or LC either and that doesn't seem right. that is correct. Novitiates can not upgrade their gear.
Rob_Loken
Everyone will say all sorts of units, but deep down, looking at the lists we see all the time, they really mean Mephiston! I think the thread was over with this post. I've only used Mephiston once and that was for a silly apoc game. Can I go with an Assault Squad with a Priest and Astorath? Cos they're brutal. I know this is all about personal likes and dislikes and I am the n00b stepping out of line in this threat but: Why would you take a priest AND astorath AND in the same squad? I am afraid I myself cant decide between Astorath and Gabriel Seth. They are both awsome - in game and the models themselfes. I use Astorath, priest, assault squad as a combo all the time. Astorath provides rerolls to hit, 2+ armor, and strenght 6 attacks. the priest provides furious charge and FNP. Its a great combo. Only about half your squads will fall to the Red Thirst with Astorath around. I know that I vary from 1/6 to 5/6 of my army falling each week. Then take an assault squad that didn't fall, stick in Astorath and priest and go smash. Oh THIS priest - I thaught you meant a chaplain. Always get them mixed up because GW uses to translate chaplain into the equivalents of "priest" in most other codexes. Aye. I see why you would question a chaplain with a chaplain. ha ha. Sanguinary Priests - The bane of most foes.
Mezkh
It's probably not my 'favourite' but the Whirlwind that can move and still fire indirectly is pretty awesome and fun.
JamesI
It's probably not my 'favourite' but the Whirlwind that can move and still fire indirectly is pretty awesome and fun. I'd have to look, but I'm pretty sure indirect fire rules require staying still, being fast wouldn't affect that.

Mezkh
I'll save you the look  Page 70, Fast Vehicles firing: Fast vehicles that move at combat speed may fire all of their weapons, just like other types of vehicles that have remained stationary (including ordnance barrage weapons, which cannot usually be fired on the move.) Of course a reference to the exception for fast vehicles on page 58 that shatter quoted would be nice, but that's GW formatting for you. It's very easily missed on page 70. Basically it means your Whirlwind can come on from reserve and fire indirectly same turn, on a turn by turn basis pop in and out from cover to fire directly or indirectly as you need to, use the move to bring the weapon within 48" range, etc. For about 5 points more than a Codex SM one, Blood Angels have the best Whirlwind. Rune_Priest_Rhapsody
The Sanguinary Priest is my favorite "unit", as he carries the Blood Chalice. And making my squad runny AND angry, makes me happy!! -R_P_R

You can't equip the Novitiates at all, unless it's with a jump pack because the entry says the entire squad gets them. What you're doing now would be like giving a devastator squad sergeant a heavy weapon. There's nothing saying he can have it, and he's a different unit in the squad entry. And I concede to your knowledge and stand corrected He's part of the squad but not an honour guard himself so it's 215pts it's still nasty just cheaper now I don't agree with it but thats the way it is and so it shall be thanks James for checking that.
