Erasmus of Baal
I've heard it theorized that a squad of combat blade and bolt pistol scouts with an attached Sanguinary Priest become a squad of incredible shock troops. I'm considering attempting this, but I'm just hoping to find out first: has anyone tried this? If so, how did it go? Forgefather Vulkan
Well I haven't tried this but in theory it'd be a really nice unit whether to support or not, my only concern would be that you Wouldn't get infiltrate but I'd guess FNP makes up for it, just don't get caught in the open!! Morollan
Personally I don't really see the benefit. Scouts are only 25 points cheaper than assault marines and you lose most of their benefits by attaching an IC. If you want a decent CC unit then it's not too hard to find one in our codex! Erasmus of Baal
If you want a decent CC unit then it's not too hard to find one in our codex! Actually, it's the other way around. I like using some scouts in an army, I'm looking for a variety of ways to field them is all. Then deep strike in anything you fancy. My personal favourite is a Land Raider packed with frothing mad Death Company. Taz
Hmmm... perhaps if you use the scouts as a delivery system for your SP? DS a TS/TAS in and have your priest run over and attach to them. Just drive the Land Raider forward and pop smoke - no need to Deep Strike and keep it off the board for a minimum of 1 turn. Morollan
Why sit them in the back? They can deploy 12" from the enemy if in cover and they can be very hard to shift. They should easily survive long enough to deep strike anything that you want with pinpoint accuracy. BLACK BLΠFLY
I heard someone was using them as follows: 9 Scouts/combat blades & bolt pistols Sergeant/power fist & combi melta Sanguinary Priest/power sword & infernus pistol He'd put them in a Stormraven and use them as a shock troop. They can hit hard but scout armor is not that great, even with Feel No Pain. 0b :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/211964-scouts-sanguinary-priest/#findComment-2521943 Share on other sites
Joasht
I never really liked Scouts as combat units back when they were WS/BS 4, and now that they are WS/BS 3 I find it even harder to justify using them :/ EDIT: Ah yeah, so my point is, WS 3 isn't what I'd call ideal for a shock unit, unless you knew for sure you'd be facing, say, Guardsmen or Tau. Yes they are "just as killy" against "normal" Space Marines, but the problem is they are also a whole lot more likely to get killed as they are hit easier and lack Power Armor. shatter
I've caught out peeps with 10sniper scouts and pf sgt with a jp pw priest before. one end of sniper squad enables attachment, other end moves toward enemy. charge. ie. up to ~31" of priest assault range/affect... sure, he didn't get to strike initially. Combined with infiltrate/scout move, this is sometimes an unexpected option... but not something I'd want to base a list around really.
