BigJon
I used to play Space Wolfs prior to the Eye of Terror codex, when the EoT came out I converted my army over to 13th Company and played them until the codex and army became outdated and did not want to switch back to C:SW. Now I'm feeling nostalgic and wanted to field my 13th Company again. The new SW codex does not really fit the 13th Company build but looking in the C:SM I see a few things I can do to try and get that feel back. First off is my Wolf Lord. I'm thinking Kor'sarrn Khan; my 13th Company was very bike heavy and he's perfect allowing me to take Bikes as troops. Second is a Librarian with Gate and Doom, perfect for a Rune Priest with "Gate" and a unit of Sternguard Vets with Melta/Combi-Melta for a Long Fang Pack. Next is filling my force out with Bikes and Attack Bikes. To round the list out I added a Ironclad Dread. I understand the 13th Co. list did not "have" dreads but he looks very per-heresy to me and still fits. Has anyone tried this method and had any luck with it? MaveriK
The new SW codex does not really fit the 13th Company build but looking in the C:SMI see a few things I can do to try and get that feel back. ehh.. :) how so? you can just restrict yourself with what the 13th never had and use the C:SW why over complicate it? there are pleanty of players here who still go fluff and use the new codex as a 13th warband... and if you use C:SM your losing out on all the great stuff the C:SW has to offer, like better troop choices, like Grey Hunters compaired to regular tactical squads. Not to mention Sagas, and all the Rune Priest powers. To round the list out I added a Ironclad Dread. I understand the 13th Co. list did not"have" dreads but he looks very per-heresy to me and still fits. not very fluffy.. just because it looks cool :) I'd rather use the points for other things like more Long Fangs. Embrace change, be grateful for what we already in the Wolf dex or you might as well just call yourself a smurf. Grimfoe
I dunno. I think the Chaos Space Marine Codex better captures the flavor of the 13th. I'd use them. You could use Wulfen, using the Possessed Stats. Khornate Marines for Slayers, etc. If you restrict your choices, I think it works quite well. Godhead
You can take logan as your wolf lord and put all your WG on bikes which is now a troops choice. You can also take wg in pa with whatever pw/frost/fist weapon you want for slayers. I am however building a bike army based on C:SM. It looks like a fun army. Barn
While i dont think C:SM is the best option for 13th Co., i do think its good to use your models with other codex's. I dont have my codex's with me, but i always thought some of the great companies (the scout based one, or the 'fire cult' type ones would be best with C:SM. It also makes for a nice change every once ina while :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212015-13th-co-standin/#findComment-2522876 Share on other sites
BigJon
For me the fun of the 13th Company was using my Rune Priest and "Gate" my Long Fangs around. Also, for the standard SW the Blood Claw bikers lose a BS and WS while the 13th Co. bikers kept the 4/4 stat. I'm playing around with both Codex (C:SW/C:SM) and see which "fits" but I'm leaning toward staying with C:SW for the time being.
