traxter
So for nearly the same points i could get 5 vv 1 PF, PW and jumpacks for 190 pts, or 5 HG with banner and jumpacks for 195. Now i know i wont have the pw or pf with the guard but joined will my sanguinor these guys would be getting 6 attacks each on the charge plus giving the sanguinor 7 on the charge. Or is the 4 attacks and maybe 5 on the charge from the vv, if sang is close enough, better because of the PW and PF? And HI? this is my dilema. I already have one additional VV squad in my list and dont know which way to go on the last 190 pts. Technically having the honorguad has an additional benefit as well as i could remove 1 of my other 2 Priests this way freeing up 90 points? then tooling them out? Please help me decide :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212019-more-bang-for-the-buck/ Share on other sites
Kurb
The VV would be more versitile. (spelling bad/monday am bad) Can "solve" problems for you. The HG would hit harder but allow saves, could kill many things with dice tho. Least thats how this newb would see it. gustmic
It seems as if you are deciding between two capable anti-infantry squads. But it really depends on your list. Is it an all-jumpers list? If you are going for an anti-infantry role for both of them (as it seems you are), then I would go for VVs. I like the PF as an insurance (against MCs and Dreadnoughts) and I like the HI. But if the only jumpers you will drop down are one of two squads of VVs then they will be easily targeted and destroyed. You want to give the enemy some difficult decisions, thus VVs fit well in an all-jumper list. If you intend to deep strike HG and Sanguinor then beware of MCs and Dreadnoughts. If you intend to jump across the field then you mobility will help and there is nothing wrong with the Honour Guard + Sanginor combo. /gustmic My all-jump-pack Blood Angels WIP blog Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212019-more-bang-for-the-buck/#findComment-2522334 Share on other sites
traxter
It seems as if you are deciding between two capable anti-infantry squads. But it really depends on your list. Is it an all-jumpers list? Yes its 2k points all jumpers... all infantry except one furiouso in a pod with beacon its pretty much libby Sanguinor 10 Assaults 10 assaults 10 assaults 5 assaults 5 VV 2 priests furioso in pod And the last squad being the one in question. if i dropped one priest added HG i could tool them all out with PF and 3 PW for the same price as the 5 VV..I think im liking this route. any other suggestions? Nazgash
The best thing with HG is the priest which cannot be targeted in CC. Think that's why HG beats vanguard veterens Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212019-more-bang-for-the-buck/#findComment-2522372 Share on other sites
traxter
good point..others will get singled out.. i think the HG is starting to outweigh the VV... looks better in my list as the sanguinor will have a home... he isnt as fluid with the VV because of their main use of HI... he would need to be around where they scatter which would be harder to accomplish for the bonus attack. dekyr
I would also question the small 5 man assault unit. what is it's purpose? you have 3 scoring units already. at 2k points that 5 man would be an easy target to remove. I would take the points and outfit the HG as it is the way to go over the VV and leave the 2nd priest. Or take out the Furioso and the 5 man for a squad of 7 DC and outift the HG with left over points. If you did, I might change the Libby for Lemartes. This is a preference though as you may have alot of Psykers in your area. Reason I say take out the Furioso is cuz it's a lone AV unit. Easy anti tank bait when you kill that first unit. I understand the reason is to get the pod and locator beacon but you probably won't see much of a difference DS your AS in over straight foot slogging. Remember your AS units won't assault when they DS. If you win the roll, you will likely want to go second so the opponent may make the mistake of moving his units close enough for you to assault on the first turn. Love to hear your thoughts on the list so we can help you more. traxter
the furioso is there because the 2 armies i play against the most often are IG infantry and mass orks! neither have tanks in their lists and at armour 13 if it survies turn1 after being dropped in their face they will both be in trouble. the five man squad would just hop around to objectives and shouldnt really be targeted because of all the threats up front in the enemies face. all i was thinking there. The problem i have with DC is their ability to do nothing. if the opponent knows what they are then he will most likely put a useless unit in front of them and keep moving them... alot of points to have to spend 1 to 2 turns not moving where i want them. The other plan is to let my oppenent go first every game. starting the whole army in reseve. Taking away his whole round of shooting and giving me the first wounds in the game. drop in middle of table in his armies face and bring everything around it. So I am liking the HG. I will play with the list without the 5 man squad and see what i can come up with thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212019-more-bang-for-the-buck/#findComment-2522803 Share on other sites
donnyb
Now i know i wont have the pw or pf with the guard but joined will my sanguinor these guys would be getting 6 attacks each on the charge plus giving the sanguinor 7 on the charge. The Sanguinor cannot join the honour guard, so their banner does not give an extra attack to him. Sadly only 6 attacks for the big S on the charge. Which is still awesome, especially combined with the honour guards 6! MaleOpener
Dante in a Honor Guard, Deep Striking, does quite well. Meltaguns/bombs FTW! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212019-more-bang-for-the-buck/#findComment-2522915 Share on other sites
