Gorlak
I'm looking for some thoughts on my idea about using the Sanguinary Guard wings (which I'm not a huge fan of on the jump packs...) as the basis for storm shields. As these are generally very useful items for the Vets and Honour Guards, I wanted to run a mock up by you guys - http://lh6.ggpht.com/_zKsz5mPpXKQ/TKCqBW2cdMI/AAAAAAAACIM/N7jwOBAqfVk/SS_01.png I was planning on using the full wing for a long shield look, but thought it would look to large and unweildy on jump pack based assault troops - thus the cut down approach seen here. Thinking of making the back from simple plasti-card and smooth down the wing accordingly. What do you guys think? Cheers, H
Gumo9
I think it looks great ! Very "angels of death" while still appearing functional. G
Erasmus of Baal
I'll go for that! I'm not sure if I'll ever make use of it, but it's a great idea and very good-looking!
Morollan
Looks great but I am seemingly in the minority in that I actually like the SG jump pack/wings so I'd never have any spare to use!
igotsmeakabob!!
I've seen a number of people do it on these forums already, it looks pretty good.
Gorlak
Brothers of the B&C, your speed of response never ceases to amaze! I spent a good while last night trying to find the thread by Maximvs, which he has just linked me too. I had the idea when I first saw the wings and wasnt convinced for use on jp's - your images confirmed it for me and now I've actually gotten around to trying it myself. Scalpels will be out tonight hopefully...! I dont mind the wings on the jump packs too much, and was in fact much more impressed when I saw them 'in-the-plastic', but I just dont like them on a full unit. My Libby conversion, Astorath and the Sanguinor will all keep winged jump packs. My main addition here is that of the more traditional 'backing' to the wing, giving it more of a shield profile, hopefully...
MaleOpener
Great job! An A++ for you! I think you have the "feel" of the BA reflect well in your chosen design. The pic you posted looks the something I'd see in a GW catalog. :}
Brother Nathan
as said looks good but you aint the first. Another oneyou can do s using the decorative plates off the baal predator.
Gorlak
Well, from Photoshop mock-up to first prototype - sorry for the image quality, they're very quick iPhone snaps as I left for work... http://lh3.ggpht.com/_zKsz5mPpXKQ/TKG07U0QjDI/AAAAAAAACIM/7Ay-NMdnyQ0/s512/Photo%20Sep%2028,%2010%2008%2022.jpg http://lh5.ggpht.com/_zKsz5mPpXKQ/TKG07zkEv-I/AAAAAAAACIM/cCba1ZpZdmY/s512/Photo%20Sep%2028,%2010%2008%2054.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_zKsz5mPpXKQ/TKG08J726YI/AAAAAAAACIM/naB_2E1tBws/s512/Photo%20Sep%2028,%2010%2012%2034.jpg http://lh4.ggpht.com/_zKsz5mPpXKQ/TKG08EyOlDI/AAAAAAAACIM/Ns31Lc9Suj4/s512/Photo%20Sep%2028,%2010%2017%2058.jpg I'm quite happy so far, just have to think about how much extra detail might go on. My main concern now is how to conceal or icorpoate magnets into the appropriate arms of the marines who will have these. A large round disk in the form arm may look a bit out of place in the fine suit of blood angel battle plate...! ;)

SnorriSnorrison
That looks really great, but a bit bulky at the same time. I wonder if there´s a way to reduce the shield´s shape to the wing´s. Still, great idea and conversion. <_< Snorri
Gorlak
I'm wondering about that too Snorri - I considered filing down the back of the wing so it sits more 'flush' with the surface of the shield back, as well as different versions of the area to the top-right of the shield, as you look at it from the front. That area particularly could be cut back to the profile of the wing piece. The main reason I added the shield back was to give the whole piece a more recognisably shield like profile and not just the impression of sticking the wing to the arm. Cheers for the comments all! Brother_Dan'l
To be honest I don't think you actually need the plastic shield form behind the wing. The size and shape you've cut the SG wing to looks like a very good Storm Shield all on it's own. In fact I like the idea so much I think I'm going to go try it out right now. :)

Veahirin
I Don't want to hijack the thread by any means, but I did the conversion with just the wing and it looks great. If you want I can post a pic. -V

Chairman_woo
Now theres an Idea I might have to steal :D Looks sweet mate, I have to echo the idea that it may look just as good without needing the shield part. Will have to see...
