Victory Denied!

So I played 1750pts against a SM player I had never played against, and victory was denied me at the last moment.

I made a couple of mistakes some just ridiculously horrible rolling in the beginning of the game, but nothing I couldn't bounce back from.

1. First mistake was deploying my thunderlord and wolves alone on one side to deal with a combat squad on an objective. Silly me forgetting that cavalry and beasts cannot climb to 2nd floor of ruins. Opponent didn't know this, I am the one that cursed myself for forgetting till after the game started.

2. Horrible rolls! I had WGTDA with a chainfist and thunderhammer barely scratching a dread in close combat. This was after a rear armor hit from a CML only knocked a weapon off and prevented it from shooting.

3. Second mistake was not popping smoke right before impending melta gun got into half range. The subsequent explosion, bunched up GH pack, nearby combat squad plasma cannon, and dread assault cannon left 3 GH standing in the crater wondering where all their pack mates had gone.

Bouncing back required the following:

1. Thunderlord switching targets from the inaccessible objective holding combat squad on 2nd floor of ruins and charging into dread in close combat with my WGTDA to free them up to advance on said objective holding combat squad.

2. Remaining 3 GH of the decimated pack in crater receiving charge from dread, holding him up for a turn and a half before sole remaining powerfist GH opens up the tin can. I think this guy is taking the vows of the LW and going to be equipped with a chainfist and TDA to represent him going after dreads.

3. Assaulting his libby with attached combat squad to wipe them out later on in his turn to set-up massacre move for remaining GH pack to contest and then assault other objective holding combat squad on my turn.

4. After destroying one dread, sent thunderlord on dread hunting duty to knock out last remaining dread.\

HOWEVER,............................As I am now poised (at the end of his turn at bottom of turn 4) to wipe out one of his remaining objective holding combat squads with GH, the other objective holding combat squad with my WGTDA, the last of his combat squads attempting to rush the objective I hold, and his dread that is unsuccessfully running away from my thunderlord; my opponent asks if this is the turn that we roll for the end of game. I reply no, that is the end of turn 5. He then looks at the board and tells me that we should call it since he has to get going.

So my Wolves were left slavering and drooling at the impending slaughter of his troops to hold two objectives to his zero and instead are left with a draw.

A draw!

A DRAW!!

A DRAW!!!

Ha, doesn't matter, because he won't fool himself by saying he had a draw, as he was about to lose big time, so take it as a victory and smash him next time!

Yeah, what he said...

Normally when my friends and I are in that kind of situation we agree etiher A] that it was a draw but one or the other had a moral victory or B] that it counted as a win if it was really totally obvious...

Must of been, Dreads get free lunch weekend.

Match I had against a SM friend of mine, kept my Wolflord in hth, for 4 freaking turns, cause all I could do with my thunderhammer was stun and shake it, never could make it go bye bye till 5th round.

And oh yeah, my fight was a draw also. :HQ:

Once my Wolves got warmed up they smoked two of his three with the third within assault range of my thunderlord. So would have been a bad day to be an ancient had we actually gotten to turn 5.
