Land Raider Maximus

Start with pictures of it and compare them against a standard Land Raider. Determine what parts are bitz, and where they came from, and what parts are built out of plasticard. I would recommend taking a note book and write everything you figure out down. I remember reading the original article on that and thinking "Wow... I could build it, but I don't have the patience to build it."

It's not a tutorial. The poster just states that it is a commission he is did for someone based on the one published by GW and on some conversion done by someone called Bram1970 (probably another member of that board). Here is the same LR after coloring: http://www.gw-fanworld.net/showthread.php?t=146999

You want to start by taking the front lower hatch, and shaving off all the long strips that all SM doors have. Add the plate to it, and detail it the way you want.

Make the front top hatch the way you want it. Like the Maximus has the fists and stuff. Do all of your greenstuff here.

Then start building the Land Raider, without the sponsons or side doors.

Get Plasticard, maybe .5mm-1mm, and cut it to the shape that is on the side of the tank. Get thin plasticard, probably .25mm, and do the lining that you see in this picture.

Cut the holes for the sponsons. Glue it all in. Then do the arch detail with the same .25mm plasticard. Then use half-rods for the pillars.

Take the frag launchers, and then shave them off, add the plasticard, and half rods, cut in half again.

Add the sponsons. For the Lascannons, it looks like they used the TL Lascannons from the Venerable Dreadnought. A couple of pieces from the CoD sprues to make it look nice.

The smoke launchers are the SM commander backpack, replacing the center piece.

Add all your details. And zangs a damn, you're done.

For the Lascannons, it looks like they used the TL Lascannons from the Venerable Dreadnought.

Not the original one, that was hand painted/sculpted and like as not was the inspiration for the Ven Lascannon.

It's still a very pretty and impressive build though.

Of course of course! The artist who did the original Maximus is a true master of the brush. Looking at the freehand and greenstuff sculpts and such.

Sorry for being late. I was searching for this thread in the Tutorial section forever! Finally checked here. :)
