One thing I would say however is that your predator needs some white to break it up a tad and make it fit in with the rest of your force.

Yep, I agree. I'm just not sure where, as the sponsons are taking up the space where white doors would go.

I'd say maybe in the recesses in the sides - by which I mean the small sections at the front and rear where you've placed the 1 marker (at the front) and where there's a small vent (on the rear recess). Of course then the problem is that you've covered the decal and there are few suitable places to re-apply it.

How about putting white on the raised parts of the view-slits? If that makes any sense.

Maybe on the sponsons? not the HBs though, the mounts i mean. You you could maybe do some freehand in white on the tank as well :S

Sir, I've come to congratulate you on an awesome army . I like your Red a lot and the Ven. Dread is very cool.

Porridge

Thanks!

I only ask because I have some MiG and some Tamiya powders as well as the FW ones, and I find that a bit of blending of the three can create some really nice effects. I am in awe of your red and white sir, it looks stunning! a very nice force in that group shot

You have any good tips for using them? Any pictures of your stuff? I would definitely like to try them out at some point, though.

That's just it. Since I started the vehicle scheme with the Rhino I would like to stick to it, but that is a good suggestion and definitely one I've considered. Besides, it would be a good deal of repainting on the Predator. If I do, maybe on an HQ transport later on, I think there's some red Dark Angels number decals I could use too. It would also be a good spot to put the chapter symbol (which should be red-on-white).

That's a good one - how about just doing the whole cupola in white? It would contrast a little more, in addition to resembling the white helmet (a la Dreadnought, Vets, etc) and break up that large flat red on the top of the vehicle. That and doing the red sponson supports in white too, perhaps?

Really cool stuff man, The red is really goods and your white is both smooth and crisp. My fav is strangely the bases, the addition of the plants and the subtle grass makes a big difference. Looking forward to seeing the FW libby ;)

Thanks man, just makes them a little more interesting to look at. A little less "Oh god, this desert is full of sand" ;)

Sponsons are a good one, because they can be sprayed separately (results in a much smoother white) and replicate the style of the Rhino. I wonder if I could pick them apart and strip them without without ruining the weapon joint. Wurrr.

Nice army, man ;) I love, love, LOVE seeing people put this much effort into one of the lesser known/ played chapters. I think this is the first time I've ever seen Sons of Orar outside of like Index Astartes or some such thing.

There's a really good Mantis Warriors blog floating around on forums too. There was also a great other Sons of Orar project a while ago. I also love anyone who breaks out the old RTB01 marines, soft spot right there.

the red is so vibrant, whats your scheme? as i would like to pinch the recipie for the red chest eagle and skull insignia on my IFs

Check the first page. It's:

Army Painter Red (undercoat), Baal Red Wash, Devlan Mud Wash, P3 Khador Red, Blazing Orange

in that order.

Getting some white on the Predator

So I wasn't happy with how the Pred came out. Too much red, so we needed to break it up. On the Rhino, this was done by doing the side doors in white. To keep the scheme similar, I decided to re-paint the Predator sponsons. Here we go.

First I carefully pried off the sponsons from the door covers and separated the parts. Then they get a bath in some acetone-free Nail Polish remover. Scrubbing the parts helps get the paint off. I only keep them in there for 10-15 seconds as this is usually enough. Then we leave them to dry for a bit.

After which they get a sleek new white undercoat.

I shade the white with heavily watered-down Fortress Grey and clean up afterwards with Skull White. Lenses are painted and the parts assembled. Personally, I think this looks a lot better than it previously did. I've also added a couple of purity seals and stowage on the rear. I may add some more later on, but for now, this tank is done.

PS. You might have spotted a small round indent on the right-hand side of the turret. This is a magnet, where a future Hunter Killer Missile will attach :HQ:

How's the base coming along for the speeder?

I need to buy a new 60mm base to mount it on, so depends when I get the chance - no hobby stores nearby, see. It's currently attached to one of the magnetic ones I decided to scrap. I could just put it on the flying base it came with, but would like to mount it on a 60mm, like the Dreadnought. Just keeps things consistent.

Tactical Squad II

I've been incredibly busy with my freelance work over the last week, so have had very little time for hobby. Even so, I managed to make a good start on Tactical Squad II. Here's a quick in-progress shot:

After the bodies were finished, it was time to start the re-basing:

More pictures later in the week.

Ravendove, I'm thoroughly impressed with your work here.

I love the crisp and clean reds and whites. Your colouring choices are excellent too, and I've just now sent myself an e-mail with your basing cacti as I think they might be just the right thing for my Blood Angels' bases.

Keep it up! :)

Nice. What's the Marine second from right at the back doing?

He has a bolt pistol in the left hand, grenade in the right, running forward.

Thanks! I can't take all of the credit though, the red primer makes it easier. When you decide to spray any white parts separately with white primer too, well... the colour scheme almost paints itself.

Quick update on the second Tactical Squad. They are now fully painted (with the exception of the Sergeant, whose arms are missing). Here's some shots of the helmet-less marine re-loading his Bolter. I was going to do a step-by-step on the skin painting, but the photos didn't come out very well. So we have before and after instead!

That's a cool pose! The Sergeant's head is from a Blood Angels kit, correct?

It's not the Sergeant, but yes the head is from the Death Company box.

Tactical Squad is done!

Another ten brother marines join the fight. Obviously, they still need bases, which are getting done together with all the others. I need to wait and pick up some more primer though. Anyway, pictures:

I'm not really happy with how the Sergeant turned out, but I can't really put my finger on it. Maybe it's the head, a normal Mk IV helmet might be better. The legs are also a bit too fussy with stuff all over them. I don't know. What are your thoughts?

Edit: After posting, I realised I'd forgotten to drill out the Bolt Pistol barrel. Ugh.

Maybe a little more Highlighting on the Helmet eagle? Otherwise, I think they look fine. Do I spot a scout in the background?

Last question (And probably one you've already answered). Why do you need to rebase them? Can't you just run a hobby knife round the edges of the base to rid them of that Mouldline-thing?
