Maybe a little more Highlighting on the Helmet eagle? Otherwise, I think they look fine. Do I spot a scout in the background?

Last question (And probably one you've already answered). Why do you need to rebase them? Can't you just run a hobby knife round the edges of the base to rid them of that Mouldline-thing?

Yep, the scout you spotted is probably one of these. :)

Because it's not exactly a moldline. The GF9 magnetic bases are made of a type of rubberised magnetic material, so attempting to file it just makes it rougher and trimming it with a knife gives it an angular look. Besides, I wanted to change the colour scheme of the bases a little and add the awesome Cacti I found. Perfect excuse to re-base an army!

Awesome painting and models mate!! ^_^ Love em!

Thanks buddy!

  • 2 weeks later...

It is an inspiring thread. I love the use of FW bits, whilst having a simple, precise, and clean paint job that still features weathering on the vehicles.

Right, we actually have blazing sunshine and no wind up here at the moment so outdoors with the airgun I go

Update!

Okay, so I'm back from two weeks holiday in sunny England. Hobby socks on, it's hobby time! First order of business was to cut up some bits that had arrived in the post. I'm going to be making a Twin-Linked Autocannon arm for the Dreadnought. The Venerable kit is great because the weapons are hot-swappable in the shoulder, without having to take off the whole arm.

Thus, for parts I'm using the useless Lascannon arm as a base, with two IG Heavy Weapon team Autocannons.

I snip off the Lascannon barrels just after the first join and the Autocannon barrels at the halfway point before the first join. Then after cleaning them up, I measure up and drill four holes. After inserting brass rod through both and gluing together, the alignment is straight and I can fill up any gaps at the base of the barrels with green stuff.

Then I fixed the two ammo drum halves together and attached this to the back of the arm. It gives the arm a bit more balance and acts as a feed drum for both the Autocannon and Assault Cannon weapon attachments.

I'm also starting work on Sevrin Loth today. I was planning on some conversion work, but the model is just so damn nice I decided to keep it as-is. Only work done is filing off the Red Scorpions symbol on the shoulder pad and adding some Ultramarines brass-etch.

Hey man, great work on your Sons, I must ask what body is that for your Company Command banner bearer, is it the standard one you get from the box?

Nope, it's MkIII Power Armour.

Great work on the dakka-dread.

Really looking forward to seeing what you do with Loth, he's such a great model and I'm glad you've decided to leave him largely unmodified.

I agree completely. One of the best FW models to date and certainly the best Librarian model produced. The level of detail on him is almost intimidating.

Bases done

So all the re-basing has now been completed. Which means we have two fully finished Tactical Squads. I won't bore you with pictures of each one, but here are some group shots. The models are a little blurry I know - I was focusing the lens on the bases.

You'll notice the Sergeant of Tactical Squad II has had his arms repositioned slightly and leans forward in a bit more of an aggressive stance, now. I might still swap out the head for one without an aquila though.

Here's the Librarian's base:

any chance of an army shot?

Yes, but I wanted to finish the Librarian first. As much for my own motivation as anything else - I get very easily distracted! Here's a sneaky peek of how it's going. I've just finished all the blue armour plates, which I think turned out pretty well as I've never painted blue power armour before. I had to go out and buy blue paint especially for this guy!

If you're curious, the recipe went like this. Note, since I'm using Mordian Blue (a foundation paint), I watered these down heavily each time.

1. Over a white undercoat, do two very thin coats of Mordian Blue to get the base colour.

2. Do a 1:1 mix of Mordian/Enchanted Blue, leaving only the very deep recesses.

3. Do a 1:2 mix of Mordian/Enchanted Blue, leaving bigger gaps.

4. Asurmen Blue Wash over everything

5. Edge highlight the armour with 1:1 Mordian Blue/Space Wolves Grey

6. Highlight only the extreme edges with thin Space Wolves Grey

Dear Ravendove,

We the Council of Miniature Wargamers beseech you to cease production of such high calibre models in such short times.

Frankly you're demotivating the rest of us.

Best,

The Council.

ps. Immense work on the Libby, really like that blue plate!

:)

Here's another in-progress shot of the Librarian. Cloth, leather and scrolls done.

Progression on the cloth/scrolls goes:

1. Graveyard Earth

2. 50/50 Graveyard Earth/Kommando Khaki mix

3. Kommando Khaki

4. Bleached Bone

5. Skull White
