JohnCS
Looking for the community's thoughts on how the proportions would look to give Mephiston a Mk IV helmet. My son's homegrown BA successor chapter models are all helmeted, and he would like a helmet on Mephiston to match, make it unique, as well as tie in with the new Forgeworld Sevrin Loth librarian who has a Mk IV helmet. (Personally I think he just afraid to try painting faces!) I photographed a spare IV helmet next to the mephiston and photo-edited it on. Side by side I thought it looked too big, but scales better than I thought when on the model. I'm still a bit torn, but it might be growing on me. I'm open to other helmet suggestions too, though the mk IV is the smallest I've found. Naturally would add the requisite cables and such. I'm skilled enough to do the head-swap, but not enough to save Mephiston's head in the process so I'd hate to end up with something unsatisfying with no recovery option. Whatcha think? http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz287/dem_ex/mephistonfrontoriginal.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz287/dem_ex/mephistonhelmetfront.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz287/dem_ex/mephistonsideoriginal.jpg http://i836.photobucket.com/albums/zz287/dem_ex/mephistonhelmetside.jpg
Fracture
I think you're on to a winner there.
grazer
Just make sure you show a bit more neck and maybe angle the head down a touch. Beakies and Mk IV helmets tend to look a little better when angled down, in my opinion. It's a great idea though!
Deschenus Maximus
Looks good imo.
Erasmus of Baal
I'm all for it, man! Nice way to make the guy still very clearly Mephiston but very clearly "your" Mephiston!
BLACK BLΠFLY
I like the idea in general but dont think this particular choice of helmet integrates well with Mephiston's artificer armor. Maybe one from the new SG kit would be more appropriate. Id try swapping out several different helmets to see which one looks the best. 0b
shatter
Remember the hood?
Hemal
I'd agree that a Death Mask would be more appropriate as it would tie in more with the armour. Also there isn't really a need for a hood per se - that's what the collare is for. However, some cabling from the armour would emphasise the effect quite well
liberate_tutame
Make him a beekee, that would be really awesome. :P
Brother_Israfil
As a fellow, I-like-my-marines-with-helmets player, I think this idea is concept is great. The Mk IV looks good here. But since you seem to be rather handy with the photo-edit, you could test some other helmet styles and see if anything strikes you. You tempt me to take the dremel to my Mephiston. I am just worried about trashing a $20 miniature....
Judaz
I'm also fielding an all helmeted army and I'm planning to build my own Mephiston as I don't like the model. The problem I have fluffwise is transfixing gaze, I feel it's hard to justify a gaze through the lenses. But maybe it's just me, I'll get over it. I would try a death mask on that model, that way the gaze might work anyway?
JamesI
I like the idea of a Death mask. I too am a Marines where helmets guy, my Corbulo got a beakie helmet, I built my own Astorath to get him a helmet. I guess Mephiston is just powerful enough that I accept his lack of a helmet (that and I really don't want to try to drill out his head).
lorider2
I like it, but drill carefully.
JohnCS
Thanks for all the feedback! I'm comfortable enough now that I can make something work that I'll give this a go. Took longer to photo-shop it than I care to admit so don't think I'll mock-up any more, but I'll try a few different helmets test-fitted in the hole before we settle on a final one. I tend to agree w/ the death mask suggestions, but got vetoe'd by the 'boss'. Especially thought the 'more neck' observation interesting, I was actually thinking the less the better when I did the photo. Will definitely go long on the neck first then trim to taste. Should get to it this weekend, will keep you updated... Thanks!
