GenerationTerrorist
Hi guys. After a little bit of advice. As I am a Crimson Fists player, but starting to get bored with the Marines Codex and it's rules, I am interested in a similar (ie: Veteran-Heavy) Blood Angels list. I normally play 2500pts+ games with my Fists army, so would be looking for a similar size BA army. The thing is, I very rarely see Sternguard units used in Blood Angel lists, so I was wondering how effective in larger games that a pair of the following would be: - 10 Sternguard - Powerfist on Sgt - 4 Combi-Melta's - Land Raider Redeemer with Multi-Melta and Extra Armour - Sanguinary Priest A very heft points sink for each, but I would like to be a bit different than the mass JP-only-style Blood Angel armies that I often see used or play against. The rest of my list would be something along the lines of 10DC with Chaplain in Crusader, 2 DC Dreads, 2 Assault Squads in HB Razorbacks, 2 Tactical Squads in Rhino's, 10 JP Vanguard, and Libby with HG in AssCan Razorback. Possibly a pair of Baal's and a pair of AC/PF Dreads too. I can live with stripping the paint from my Fists army, but I don't really want to have to shell out for a whole new set of models! Any thoughts and suggestions? Cheers, GT :-) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212353-sternguard-heavy-army-viablecompetitive/ Share on other sites
Aradai
I use Sternguard all the time. I have an assault heavy army but my Sternguard are a valuable asset. I like them in a fast transport like a Razor or Rhino. I personally save Land Raiders and Storm Ravens for assault Troops. The Sternguard are just too good to help out with stuff you really don't want to assault or at least want to severely cripple to minimize your losses. Sterns + Assault is a super effective one two punch. If you really want a Sternguard heavy army the vanilla codex allows you to take them as scoring units so that's probably a better option. I agree. C:BA has more options if you want to field assault units, but also some options we share with C:SM are less effective(Sternguard as scoring units). If you wanted to use 2 or three units, use C:SM, as our other Elites are for more precious and viable than Sternguard, in my opinion. Just think of Priests, Furioso Dreadnoughts and Sanguinary Guard. Competition is tough. Snorri Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/212353-sternguard-heavy-army-viablecompetitive/#findComment-2525857 Share on other sites

Well as BA you dont need Sterguards. You can fild the Sanguinian Guard - the are cheaper and have a 2+ armor save. With Dante they are also scoring...
