Cypher

Hi all, have been re-reading the Dark Angels Horus Heresy books. I know they're probably the least popular of the series amongst most people but I quite like them. Anyway I had a little idea. I have a feeling that Zahariel may end up becoming the Cypher that we know of in 40k today. Can't really say why, is just a feeling I have. Maybe just because of his character and his relationship, of a sort, with the Watchers and the vow he made to them. Anyone else have any thought on this?

There was this one youngster who survived the annihilation of the Knights of Lupus... He was made an astartes quite quickly, and rose amazingly fast to such an important position, that was the Lord Cypher of the Dark Angels.

And by the claims of two figures within the Order, namely Sar Daviel and Master Remiel, it seems more than likely, that he is the same Cypher that continues to elude the Unforgiven today.

I made the same connection at first, but lexicanum hinted otherwise..

It also mentions Lord Cyper with a matched pair of pistols...that was the detail that gave it away

Yeah, that give him away :tu:

Anyone knows whether Dark Angels will get another HH book?

Oh I hope not, I really, really hope not. The first two were so dire that we don't need to suffer a third. Let any appearences Lionel needs to make be as cameos in better primarch's books. The remaining story of Caliban can be told as a short story in Tales of Heresy II if they make it.

I agree, Descent of Angels was terrible, but Fallen Angels was not so bad -actually it was pretty good, Mike Lee really surprised me. The only problem is that you can't only read the second book because together they make a whole.

Oh well... :)

I would say it is a foregone conclusion that there will be a third book in the series - there has to be to tie the rest of the story together that has been building up over the previous two books. I must say also that these books I actually really enjoyed, although I think a lot of readers struggled to come to terms with the first book not actually having marines in it for the most part. In that sense, I think it was an invaluable part of the series as we got to see a world during the coming of a Primarch and the impact he had on it, as well as the impact of the world itself on the growth of the Primarch. Perhaps Descent of Angels will be validated by what comes afterwards.

And, I think it might well be one of the most important in the HH series. At last we will find out 'what went down' on Caliban, who exactly was responsible for the rift in the Legion - and the question we have all been waiting to know, just how complicit was the Lion in all of it?

Personally, I would have loved Gav Thorpe to write the book, but then I know probably a good 80% of DA fans aren't in favour of his 'dirty lion' interpretation, so no doubt we will have a heroic Lion crying 'for the Emperor and my father' in an echoing voice as he heroically smites the evil Luther and Caliban crumbles around him. (Perhaps I should have put spoiler tags around that  ?)

I agree I think some really interesting characters had been built up in both books. It was pretty obvious who was going to end up fighting on each side of the Heresy by the end, but it would be nice to see it in print and what actually happens to them..

What I'm not looking forward to however is reading the backlash on here when the Lion finally dies, and no matter how it is written it won't be 'heroic' enough ! :P
